OT: Hurricane Sandy

Hope everyone in NYC and on the coast is alright. Our power is out here in Stamford, but aside from some branches being down, my neighborhood is okay. I listened to the radio most of last night, and the stuff that happened in Lower Manhattan is terrible.

Just got back to my apartment in Yonkers, Hudson breached the pier by 6ft, my building lobby had a few feet of water in it, and somehow, my place on the first floor is completely untouched, didn't even lose power. Couldn't believe it.

We have seven trees down, power lines crushed on two sides and multiple houses with trees on them in the neighbor hood. Trapped on our street and 100% power outage in our town here in CNJ.

Yes. Us too. 100% power lost in our town. Trees and power lines down all over the place. Sandy makes Irene look like a walk through the park.

On the upper west side and just had a few flickering lights, but nothing else. I live right near the American Museum of Natural History and a lot of the large trees were uprooted - but that looked to be the worst impact from the storm.

Otherwise just a lot of wind and rain.

Hope all are well.

Brother just texted me that. He thinks this is worse in NYC than people thought it would be.

How's your brother doing?

No power or hot water and wont have it for a few days so he went to a hotel. Sent me pics and video from the lower east side. Pretty scary looking. Trees on cars. Cars floating around. Stuff like that. But he's fine.

Good to know. Hope things get back to normal for him soon.

Glad he's safe. Scary stuff down there.

This blows, want to bug out and go to Lake George, but can't as wife is a nurse and needs to go in. No power but have gas and hot water. And tons of Jack Daniels. They tell me power comes back next week.

Still plan on hitting the Giants game.

Love Lake George. One of our favorite vacationing spots.

Well? How bad is it in JC?

It was pretty bad. Flooding was substantial and people and businesses are still pumping away water from their homes once the water receded. Still no power and they estimate 7-10 days for everyone to be back up. The cell service is also spotty so I have very shaky communication, which explains my painful two day absence from the board. My brother thankfully got power back today so im crashing on his couch for the time being.

I also work in lower Manhattan (close to battery park city), and our building was flooded and they estimate that we won't be back in the building for another week and a half. So basically I'm stuck working from my phone (when I can get service). Crazy few days but I'm thankful for my safety.

Below is an example of the scene in JC from the storm. This scene was played out all around the waterfront area.

Still no power for me. No phone service either. But I can boil water and took a bath this morning. Surreal walking home in Manhattan with a flashlight.

I'm back at work in Times Square. The stories from the people south of 34th versus those that are north of it are just night and day. It's like two different cities.

Agreed. It's funny coming "uptown" because everything looks fairly normal. I couldn't imagine if all of manhattan was out of power for this long.

If anyone needs a hangout spot, the PotBelly north of FIT is perfect. Lots of outlets, wifi, and hot food.
