We knew this before, but the piece reminds me of the hypocrisy of the NCAA & those of the "we already are paying players with room, board & an education" p.o.v. If players are indeed already being 'paid' then why are they not allowed to leave for another 'job' without restriction? A player on a one-year scholarship can be dropped by his school (i.e., get fired) but is not allowed to decline to renew his scholarship & start at another school without sitting out a year.
Not discussed in the piece is the as-ridiculous policies w.r.t. graduates who have eligibility left. If you want to continue playing but at another school you have to do so at a school that offers a graduate program not offered by your first school. This is exactly the opposite of the usual "broaden your horizons & go to someplace different" advice that is usually given to students considering grad school.
