OT: Louisville Signs Adidas Deal for $160M/10 years

I read that as $10 million over six years too. So only about 1.7 million a year.

Yeah, a bump from Nike's $1.

Maybe this goes in a different thread, but I'm glad we're not Rutgers.

Different budgets. A bake sale isn't going to pay for a Dome refurbish and Athletics rents the Dome from the University, doesn't own it.

One of the silliest things Syracuse does is pay the university money to play in the building on THEIR OWN CAMPUS

Nike is way over paying the Scarlet Blight. Maybe they can do their next deal with Shirt World guy. Lettering would be crooked and wrong color plus payout would change everyday depending on what he came up with on the calculator. It's that or Chico's Bail Bonds as a corporate sponser for them.

In terms of athletic performance, I see FB obviously rising and then bball seems to be righting the course (especially if they land Carey).

I'm aware of budgets...you can still move money around to get end result you desire.

The Dome is like a $250 million endeavor.

Athletics still has to pay to buy things from Nike (shoes for all sports, etc.) The topline is not all net revenue.

The Dome is big $$$ and it's not a move money around situation.

How is Duke so low? Not sure we get above ND on the next go around.

Regardless of whether it's Nike, UA or Sketchers, I think it would be in the sponsors best interest to close soon.

From the Orange perspective, on the other hand, you probably believe the brand is on the rise (BBall always strong - Football is on the come). It may, therefore, be in the University's interest to draw the negotiation out a bit. A better than expected football season (and another 1 or 2 charismatic Dino locker room speeches) could result in a much better valuation.

Should be interesting seeing how it plays out.

So it is
UL $10 million per year
UConn $5.5 million or so per year
and
Rutgers $1.6 million per year

SU falls just behind UL and well ahead of UConn in merchandise sales and represents a bigger state than either.

College Merchandise Rankings (Candidates for Big XII Expansion)

I would hope Syracuse could get at least the same deal as the Cardinals. Based on how poorly Nike has treated Syracuse, I think Nike has to seriously outbid its competitors to keep it...

I'd be shocked to see Syracuse get Louisville's deal straight up.

And as much as I am not a fan of Beaverton, they have not treated Syracuse poorly. Didn't help that a former AD treated the brand like a golden calf, but if all bids were equal, difficult to displace the incumbent unless there was a desire from the beginning to cut bait.

Duke is a small school and a one-trick pony in the non-top revenue sport.

Plus Nike carries some weight on the basketball scene. Helps with more recruits than not.

Hard to compare a lot of these schools as the guys who seem low are just teams that haven't renewed in a while. The jig is up and these companies will pay, just to have to see how much you can get out of them.

Let's face it, apparel companies are rip off artists. Selling $15 sneaks for $150, or $10 jerseys for $75, etc. You pay much more for the "brand" and "marketing" than the actual product. If they want to keep their brand up they need someone to rep them and need these contracts. I really think 8 million a year is small change to these marketing pros.

When Nike's name was mentioned in the Albany No Huddle in June, there was an ahem - unsettled restiveness in the crowd.

All true. The JB factor must be considered as well...

So true.

Welcome to capitalism.

Nike has 93-94% market share in basketball shoes. They are the defect standard.

Adi is coming back strong. And UA has Curry, one of only two current NBA players that actually drive shoes sales (LeBron.)

I think curry carries a lot of weight with kids nowa days. Between that and the icon stuff I think you will see more basketball players wearing UA soon. Plus I paid $160 for my icons and have paid $230 for custom lebrons so the parents may have something to do with that. As far as football anyone buying Nike over UA is doing so just out of habit. UA is a far better cleat and ankle supporting shoe. Plus Brady wears them lol.

I think Under Armor makes a strong push for us when the Nike contract is up, Im betting we see $10 mil per year for our new deal with either NIKE or UA
