@ChipBrownOB High-level sources tell Orangebloods that Mack Brown will step down as coach at Texas after 16 years.

@ChuckCarltonDMN,'Can't confirm, but Orangebloods is reporting that Mack Brown will step down at Texas

Oh the Internet - ain't it grand. Who knows if this happens, but I'll get my popcorn ready.

@footballscoop: There is real belief within the profession that Saban will happen [at UT]. Absolutely fascinating times

Reporter on Finebaum said Saban could be named Texas coach this weekend. Jesus H.

do people think saban relishes the challenge or the money? or is it more of a reputation/ego type deal? eg. he goes to texas and builds a dynasty there, he could go down as the greatest ever. not saying any of it is wrong, just curious what the thinking would be.

Saban to UT could start quite an interesting game of poach-a-coach.

Popcorn is being made here as well.

He has the golden ticket right now. Cant see why he would want to leave Tuscaloosa

this is going to be so much fun to watch!* please please please florida, drop Muschamp, too! What the heck, let's reshuffle it all!

*assuming we don't have assistants we like bolt for better gigs!

jobs like texas don't open up often. this is his window. his stock can't go up at bama and he's got nothing left to prove there. good for him taking on a new challenge versus being complacent. the money is great but the difference isn't any more life altering. this is for the challenge and his legacy.

Those are good reasons

He also has HC A.D.D.

Playing into that would be a realistic shot at being the first head coach (I would think) to win a national title at 3 different schools. Seems like something a guy like him would want to accomplish.

Lastly I'm just going to make the assumption based on everything I've heard and read that Austin >>>>>>>>>>> Tuscaloosa.

So, seriously, who is next up at Bama? Trying to think of a big name that could step in but am drawing blanks.

Their DC, Kirby Smart. Not a big name, but I think it would be him.

Bama will match any offer Texas brings to the table. He has made that school tens of millions and has increased their profitability multi-fold. Regardless where he ends up, Saban is getting a juicy, juicy raise.

Texas doesn't even have a proper IPF. They only have a Rutgers-esque pop-up tent.

So this means that if Saban brings in a totally new coaching staff, Greg Robinson and Major Applewhite are available.

He's a big name among coordinators. I could only see him leaving for UGA. He has to be the front runner.
