@FollowtheFrogs: Source close to Texas executive council of regents says Nick Saban will be next Longhorns coach.

@DeanBlevins: Texas source tells me:
"Saban sitting on 10-yr deal worth $100M & 1% of #LonghornNetwork."

When you throw in the 1% of the Longhorn network that's a game changer.

@FollowtheFrogs: If I had more information to write a story I would have. Source was very confident. I'll believe it when I see it.

@FollowtheFrogs: I have no vested interest in Texas' next coach. Just reporting what a reputable source is claiming. No linked story, not fishing for hits.

Maybe Saban thinks the Alabama fanbase is beginning to take him for granted. I'm sure he's confident that he could have the same success at Texas, and it wouldn't be surprising if it was by year 2. He'd also have an easier road to being undefeated. I'm hoping it happens.

Winning a national championship at 3 different schools would put him on the coaches' Mount Rushmore. Texas has the resources necessary to let him do that. Also, Austin > Tuscaloosa.

It's either his over the top ego or he sees a Mack truck with the letters NCAA on it ready to hit Tuscaloosa head on. Why else would he go to Texas when he has everything at Bama?

I'm not buying the violations argument because a player like Texas would pick up on that stench. However, it isn't far fetched considering the background of some of alabama's coaches.

Such BS from two beat reporters trying to break a big story and get noticed. No chance texas would give him a % of the Longhorn Network.

This whole thing is very interesting. On one hand, you wouldn't think Texas would shove Mack out the door in this fashion without having their guy lined up.* However, Saban seems like the kind of guy where you can't assume you have him until his name is on the contract.

If Saban goes, the domino effect could be incredible.

* Texas could have offered Mack a move into an administrative role that he's refusing, in which case I wouldn't blame them for going forward.

And if he had enough time to hire them. Pasqualoni was fired after the bowl game and GRob was hired on January 11, which is late in the process and comes with less than a month until national letter of intent day. If GRob was hired in early to mid December, who knows what he might have done at SU? He might have won as many as 12 games over his four seasons.

Grob to uconn?

I assumed Mack would be given a title and hang around. Would help with continuity, etc. He might not be down with that charade, though.

Saban is NOT getting 1% of the LHN that is just so irresponible to even report. I mean he could receive a bonus in form of 1% LHN profits put in his contract, but no chance Texas would give him an ownership stake unless it included a provision that Texas could purchase it back once he stopped being the Texas job.

In my opinion, when judging a story you have to have to look at history. In 2006, Nick Saban was coaching the Dolphins and said he wasn't going to Alabama he even had that press conference where he said undeniably he wasn't going to Alabama. Flash forward at the end of the Miami Dolphins season he takes that jet to Alabama and becomes the Crimson Tide head coach. Now 2013, all of a sudden the seeds have been planted. First by Saban's wife the only place he would leave Alabama for would be Texas. Second, Saban getting pissed off at the Alabama students for attendance problems at Alabama games. Third, the pressure of winning at Alabama and how its under-appreciated. Now Mack Brown is gone. Looking at the evidence I think Nick Saban will be the next coach of Texas, and Alabama will hire one of Louisville's Charlie Strong, Clemson's Dabo Swinney, Northwestern's Pat Fitzgerald, Miami's Al Golden.

.

i actally don't think it is too far fetched from a business perspective. LHN (espn) is struggling to get picked up by Comcast, Dish, DirectTv, etc. Saban comes in, the demand goes up in the state of texas(and nationally). the ROI might be worth it to LHN (and ESPN)

@gkketch2
An OB source has confirmed that Nick Saban has initiated the vetting process of trying to see what a staff at Texas might look like.

All the noise is coming from OrangeBloods though. They were a large reason a lot of the Dude's rumors made it main stream and they've been wrong a lot before.

Chip Brown is the mouthpiece of the TX AD office. He was wrong completely during the summer of 2011 and the Big XII crap when it was falling apart. Creating story after story linking Texas to Pac-12 once, to the ACC, to the B1G.

While I don't trust Chip Brown's crap typically I think looking at Saban's history and what has transpired these past few months Saban to Texas has real legs, and I believe will end up happening.

Something's fishy here.

Those posers consider the brown they wear as "orange"? Credibility ruined.

Why has nobody mentioned Jimbo Fisher as a possibility. He's the closest thing to an SEC style coach outside of the SEC, has proven he can recruit and has been to more NC's than any of the other guys you mentioned. Now I don't know whether Jimbo would be interested or not, but figured his name would have to be brought up if Saban leaves.

I actually heard his name as the second choice behind Saban by a Texas blogger being interviewed on the radio yesterday. He pretty much said that Texas could double his salary. Kind of irritating how arrogant Texas fans are about their program's $$. Reminds me of the West Virginia fans spouting off about the Big 12 money they are bringing in.

heard at the Austin Airport they have been paging Saban's name all day long

granted, if i were an alabama fan i rather go after fisher, strong, etc, but hasn't kirby smart been groomed to be the successor to saban

According to UConn fans, Saban was headed to UConn as HC, and bringing Fisher and Malzahn along as assistants.

think of the recruiting mess this could create on down the line
