OT - Mack Brown Rumors

Their DC, Kirby Smart. Not a big name, but I think it would be him.
i don't think they'd go with somebody who hasn't been a hc. they've failed taking assistants before. they need some sort of a name/track record.

He's a big name among coordinators. I could only see him leaving for UGA. He has to be the front runner.
1 of only, I believe, 3 to be making over $1 mil a year.

alabama? Hmmmm
I would actually be curious to see what he did with a big enough budget to hire experienced assistants.

And if he had enough time to hire them. Pasqualoni was fired after the bowl game and GRob was hired on January 11, which is late in the process and comes with less than a month until national letter of intent day. If GRob was hired in early to mid December, who knows what he might have done at SU? He might have won as many as 12 games over his four seasons.

the President of UT is on the hot seat as well for his repeated run ins with the govenor and his staff and could be canned. I'd be a little leery with a lame duck President and a new AD....

So this means that if Saban brings in a totally new coaching staff, Greg Robinson and Major Applewhite are available.

Applewhite was once Saban's OC at Alabama. Can't remember exactly how that ended, but I thought it was because Major wanted a job, any job, at Texas. So he might be safe.

Robinson might have just run out of people to hire him, even though he did a very good job as Texas' DC this year.

Reporter on Finebaum said Saban could be named Texas coach this weekend. Jesus H.
I believe Finebaum said a week or so ago it would never happen and if it did he (Finebaum) would quit his job.

So, seriously, who is next up at Bama? Trying to think of a big name that could step in but am drawing blanks.
Opie has withdrawn from consideration.

33 years ago Jackie Sherrill left Pitt for T a&m and the unheard of sum of $200,000/year making him the highest paid coach in the college game. Now Nick - that's what Gary Danielson calls him - is looking at 50 times that. Wow

So you're saying that a new AD would introduce himself to the fanbase by getting rid of Nick Saban?

The AD would have to have the authority to hire Saban first and he may not be working for the same person by the end of this week.......

do people think saban relishes the challenge or the money? or is it more of a reputation/ego type deal? eg. he goes to texas and builds a dynasty there, he could go down as the greatest ever. not saying any of it is wrong, just curious what the thinking would be.

It's either his over the top ego or he sees a Mack truck with the letters NCAA on it ready to hit Tuscaloosa head on. Why else would he go to Texas when he has everything at Bama?

I don't think Robinson lands anyplace. He didn't want the DC gig. Brown said he had to talk him into it for the 1 season. Brown would have been safe if they could have beat Baylor and won the B12. Now in their bowl they get another offensive heavy weight in Oregon.

The new NCAA rules would make him accountable even at a new school, so it's probably a combination of money, ego, and lifestyle.

If Saban goes, Smart becomes the sentimental choice from players and next year's recruits, but I think Bama would look at Franklin, Strong and the usual cast of candidates.

If Saban left, would Malzahn dare leave Auburn and go to 'Bama?

That would be so much more than we could hope for.

I don't think so...that would be nuts.

Schiano to Storrs would be fun, but the Bucs may have saved his job for some odd reason.

mack brown was asked to resign...saban is fixing to sign a extension worth 7 mill. watch g rob become coach wonder how long it takes for him to ruin that program ?

@FollowtheFrogs: Source close to Texas executive council of regents says Nick Saban will be next Longhorns coach.

@DeanBlevins: Texas source tells me:
"Saban sitting on 10-yr deal worth $100M & 1% of #LonghornNetwork."
