Apparently Texas has 10 million reasons
and Austin > Tuscaloosa. It's not even close.
Apparently Texas has 10 million reasons
Great! Think we can get Leach? What the heck, let's reshuffle it all!
i don't think they'd go with somebody who hasn't been a hc. they've failed taking assistants before. they need some sort of a name/track record.Their DC, Kirby Smart. Not a big name, but I think it would be him.
1 of only, I believe, 3 to be making over $1 mil a year. He's a big name among coordinators. I could only see him leaving for UGA. He has to be the front runner.
I would actually be curious to see what he did with a big enough budget to hire experienced assistants.
alabama? Hmmmm

So this means that if Saban brings in a totally new coaching staff, Greg Robinson and Major Applewhite are available.
I believe Finebaum said a week or so ago it would never happen and if it did he (Finebaum) would quit his job.Reporter on Finebaum said Saban could be named Texas coach this weekend. Jesus H.
So, seriously, who is next up at Bama? Trying to think of a big name that could step in but am drawing blanks.

Opie has withdrawn from consideration. So, seriously, who is next up at Bama? Trying to think of a big name that could step in but am drawing blanks.
So you're saying that a new AD would introduce himself to the fanbase by getting rid of Nick Saban?the President of UT is on the hot seat as well for his repeated run ins with the govenor and his staff and could be canned. I'd be a little leery with a lame duck President and a new AD....

do people think saban relishes the challenge or the money? or is it more of a reputation/ego type deal? eg. he goes to texas and builds a dynasty there, he could go down as the greatest ever. not saying any of it is wrong, just curious what the thinking would be.
Chip said:Applewhite was once Saban's OC at Alabama. Can't remember exactly how that ended, but I thought it was because Major wanted a job, any job, at Texas. So he might be safe. Robinson might have just run out of people to hire him, even though he did a very good job as Texas' DC this year.
It's either his over the top ego or he sees a Mack truck with the letters NCAA on it ready to hit Tuscaloosa head on. Why else would he go to Texas when he has everything at Bama?
Full_Rebar said:The new NCAA rules would make him accountable even at a new school, so it's probably a combination of money, ego, and lifestyle. If Saban goes, Smart becomes the sentimental choice from players and next year's recruits, but I think Bama would look at Franklin, Strong and the usual cast of candidates.
That would be so much more than we could hope for.Robinson to UCONN, where else can they find someone with experience replacing Cosch P?!?! Toy stores will sell our of teddy bears and copies of the Little Engine That Could.
If Saban left, would Malzahn dare leave Auburn and go to 'Bama?
