I am moving from Massachusetts to Atlanta for work in August, company is based out of the Dunwoody area. I would love to hear from our ATL members where I may go about catching some Cuse games. Likely moving to Milton, Alpharetta, Johns creek area.

The Hudson Grille in Sandy Springs is your best bet. You can also go to Siracusa's in Smyrna.

Welcome to Atl! Glad to add another fan. PM if you need any help or advice with anything.

Hey welcome to the Peach State ... if you are in Dunwoody make sure you stay east of the perimeter where ever you decide to reside ... traffic sucks. I see you picked nice neighborhoods to move into ... John's Creek is one of the best in GA as well as Alpharetta.

You too, eh? In my case it'll be a return, since I left there for California back in 2003.

I see more and more SU stuff here all the time ... just need some more transplants so we can take over.

That's my neck of the woods. Take a look at South Forsyth county, just over the line from Alpharetta. My address is Cumming, but the other side of the street is Alpharetta. Lower taxes (though not like they used to be), absolutely awesome schools.

For all intents and purposes, I live in Alpharetta/John's Creek, with the advantages of Forsyth. Three of Georgia's top ten elementary schools are in Forsyth County, three of the top twenty high schools, two of the top four middle schools (and three of the top ten). When you take out the magnet/charter/specialty type schools, that's pretty amazing. Even if you don't have kids, that's great for home values and tells you a lot about the community.

Which is not to say the schools in Alpharetta/Milton are not quite good as well, because they are. But I'm really blown away by the quality of schools and students at my kids' schools, all three levels.

Roughly in the general area on this map just north of McGinnis Ferry is what I'm talking about. I think some of this area has a Cumming address, some of this is Suwanee address. You're kind of right in an intersection of Milton, Gwinnett and Forsyth counties, with great access to the best of all three counties.

No idea you were in our neck of the woods Lou ... I'm over on the Gwinnett line right by Mill Creek High School ... just off 124 in Hoschton ... actually the drive from here to the perimeter isn't bad if you are a real early riser of course I suppose the same could be said for living in Alpharetta/Milton ... I will say that it is cheaper living here in Gwinnett vs Fulton county.

To echo what Lou says, I am looking primarily at Alpharetta/Johns Creek right now. My son will enter kindergarten this year and there is a cluster of really good elementary schools in that area.

But do keep in mind where your job is, because the traffic on GA400 can be abominable if you have to head south toward the city with the rest of the throng. A couple exits' difference can make a surprisingly big difference in commute time.

Welcome to the suburban traffic capital of the world! I would spend the money to live as close to work as possible. Driving up and down 400 everyday is no picnic. I live in Alpharetta-Kimball Bridge-and work in Midtown. I used to drive(easily over an hour) but now jump on a bus at Mansell P&R which takes me to the North Springs Marta. Saves me time, money(gas) and I get work done. They have been talking about extending the Marta train up 400 for years, but now it actually sounds promising. Not sure where your office is in Dunwoody, but there is a Dunwoody station. I live in Alpharetta for family reasons, but as soon as my son gets a little older I am moving inside the perimeter. I'm sure you have researched the area, but they are building a huge live, work, play district off Old Milton called Avalon-it will make traffic worse.

If you are from Boston, Atlanta will be a shock to you. Not very urban, not very walkable...very spread out. Extremely small train system. I lived in Manhattan for a long time and Atlanta feels like a large suburb. Once you get north of the River on 400 its basically a bunch of suburban development sprawl with chain restaurants. Once you get past Old Milton, Windward PKWY it gets dicey with the locals-this is the South still. I always say Georgia should really be 2 states-the Atlanta metro being one, the rest of Georgia the other. They are trying to say its an international city, but coming from NYC its not even close.

One last tidbit-I try not to sugarcoat anything when it comes to the A-nobody gives a behind about professional sports here. Its college football all the time.

Oh yeah and there is no beach.. LOL! Other than that, enjoy the summer heat and bring your golf clubs.

Lake Lanier is a nice place to go if you want a beach like environment. He wouldn't be that far from it.

i recommend living as close to the city of atlanta as possible.

Thats right by me. I live in Cumming/Alpharetta (South Forsyth County). Ive only ever been to Hudson Grille which isnt too far and a great Cuse atmosphere.

You'll like it down here. Great area to move to.

You should consider Charlotte. The housing is cheaper, the airport move convenient, and the commute to midtown will be about the same as from Alpharetta

I lived in Atl for five years and left in 2006. I hadn't been back until the 2013 FF. My wife and I were amazed at both the expansion and infill that had occurred since we left, particularly in the Dunwoody area where I had worked.

The city is not lacking for things do or opportunity. I would strongly consider folks advice here about trying to live as close to work as possible. Good luck on the move and remember you need to ask for unsweet tea specifically.

Thanks for all of the great feedback. My office is right on peachtree dunwoody in the perimeter area. I am very aware of how bad traffic is. Not looking forward to that.

Welcome! Keep posting questions as you have them. I thought I would miss the northeast, but not one bit.

Welcome to the ATL. Like Longislandcuse, I live in the Cumming area, just over the Alpharetta line. Taxes are much lower and the schools are the best. Johns Creek is nice too. If you have to take 400 everyday to work, it's a bear. Hudson Grille is nice for CUSE games, and there are a lot of other good places, close by. Starting to see a lot of Cuse flags in bars now that we've joined the ACC.

I'm on the expensive side of McGinnis Ferry. :)

I'm just east of 141 in Johns Creek. Fortunately, my new place of employment is only 2.5 miles away on Johns Creek Parkway.

I thank God everyday my office is in my home ... the traffic sucks.

Yep that's right where I am, no doubt 400 is nasty. In the time I've lived here I've had offices in Chamblee, Norcross and Roswell. Thankfully I've never had to get on 400 or an interstate to work, and been "fortunate" enough to have no more than a 45 minute commute on surface streets.

You are lucky ... I used to take 75 South to Marietta every morning for work ... that sucks too LOL.
