OT - Pacquiao v. Mayweather

MR. Levy

I will admit I do not watch a lot of boxing, however for most of us out there we know boxing as a sport where top physical athletes compete to literally knock the other out. In this day of social media Pacquiao v. Mayweather promised all things that the younger generation has never had the opportunity to see, and that is two men going toe to toe, establishing dominance and showing the heart of warrior. This was the highest grossing title fight of all time! of ALL TIME! For younger semi-fans who want a reason to love the sport and even for the older generation who had the opportunity to see the great "Rocky - esque" fights of the past the stage was set to breath new life into boxing. Instead, once again, on the biggest stage, the largest grossing boxing event of all time the viewers as whole are left unsatisfied. It did nothing for the sport of boxing. Sure if I was a super fan I could say wow that was amazing technique and defense on display tonight. However most of the world are not super fans of boxing. Most of the world wants to see the definition of boxing, "the sport or practice of fighting with the fists, especially with padded gloves in a roped square ring according to prescribed rules" (Oxford Dictionary) Sadly that did not happen and unfortunately this is why the sport is dying. The two biggest names in boxing did not even live up to the definition of their sport...

just my thoughts and opinions...
If they had ppv back in 1974 I don't think you'd be saying this was the highest grossing fight of all time(inflation must be considered as well). Frazier vs Foreman or Rumble in the Jungle probably would have whooped this fight. Fact is Mayweather is a scumbag and alot of people wouldn't watch this fight for that reason.

No, MMA is replacing boxing. At least for me. It is 10x more entertaining , and requires a higher skill level, too. I'd rather watch the full 26 mile marathon that pay for the absence of entertainment this fight brought. Yawn. Mark it...boxing as we know it now will go the way of the rotary phone.

I wish Mayweather had fought during some of boxing's glory years too, just to see what would have happened. We will never know, of course. You can certainly accuse Mayweather of only fighting on his own terms, but you can't accuse him of dodging anybody. He fought all the best of his era (what few there are) and beat them all convincingly.

I imagine if Mayweather fought someone like Sugar Ray or Hearns, it would look a lot like it did when he fought Alvarez who is bigger than Mayweather and is still undefeated against everyone who is not named Mayweather (Mayweather dominated Alvarez even worse than he dominated Pacquiao by the way).

This is all assuming Mayweather in his prime of course. The real difference between then and now is Mayweather couldn't have beaten the best at 38 like he can now. I suspect that Mayweather in his prime beats any boxer ever of comparable weight though.

Sure I can. Saturdays fight didn't happen 5 years ago because? Would've loved to see 33 year old Floyd vs 31 year old Manny. Manny fell off big time in the past 5 years thus the fight actually happening now. What could've been special turned into another Mayweather clinic over someone now lacking the power to hurt him. Up until 2010 Manny was winning and hurting people but not since.

Oh really? Was Hagler vs Hearns boxing? Was Frazier vs Ali boxing? Was Ray Robinson vs jake Lamotta boxing? It is a sin to MENTION Floyd Mayweathers name in the same Book as these great fighters. It was my hope that he was exposed last night as a glorified, wife beating, money stealing Saul Mamby. But I'm sure there'll be a load of people laying down money to fall asleep to his next fight.

So basically you're mad that he won easily again?

It's not like Floyd has been in a cryotube for the past 5 years. He got older too.

Sure but suffice to say they live quite different life styles. Floyd lives boxing, Manny has spent the last five years as a politician among other things.

So all 3 judges had the red corner winning... and mayweather was the blue corner. Howd they manage that?

Cloudy is calls Manny a "coward" and no longer wants a rematch.

Oh, the drama!
