Thanks for sharing, all. :) Not a cat person, but I always like someone else's pet. Grew up with dogs in the house, Saints and Shepards, a couple of Great Danes. My last one was a blonde American Cocker Spaniel. When you didn't have kids, you can get really attached to pets. It broke my heart that last day when I had to take her to the vet after her stroke. About all she could do was wag her tail some. She always loved to go for a ride in the car, and I felt so guilty. I remember almost every minute of that day. We held her while she went. I went to the pound shortly afterward, and I wanted to take them all home. But I had to leave because I realized couldn't go through that again.

I had almost the EXACT experience you went through. I can't get another either

Sorry, brother. Doggin done run in my family and I feel the same way. My wife knows I probably can't see him off when that day comes. Way too attached to my little man, and just seeing what my dad went through with past labs and goldens, I know it's going to be beyond brutal for me.

Either way, sorry.

They become family members. My dogs bring me so much joy. When I come home from being away, they are the only family members that are excited that I am back.

Hey, no worries, it's a fun thread and I appreciate the sharing. Honest. It reminded me of a lot the good times with my own. So don't be sorry man, just enjoy the heck out of 'em while you've got 'em. :)

Now, where's the damn Scotch ...

Toast to you bro, gonna have a little sip of the Irish Whiskey right now.

No Otto's?

You guys all make me jealous. My wife is super allergic and all I want to do is adopt like 8 pit bulls. I'd love to adopt a labradoodle or bernadoodle, but have yet to find one at a shelter. I don't think I could bring myself to paying $3000 for a dog when there are so many out there that need adopting!!

MadNYC has an "Otto," a beautiful Golden who appears on Christmas cards with his kids. Cmon, Mad, post a picture of him.

And Jake named his dog "Boeheim" ---- because he wanted to be able to tell "Boeheim" what to do.

Recently I read some conjecture over whether a dog was really a man's best friend, and the argument ran that your best friend was your wife. And to test it he said, "Lock your wife and your dog in the trunk of the car for an hour, and see which one's happy to see you after you open it." ;)
