OT: Report: Pat Narduzzi turns down offer to become UConn’s coach

I disagree. It has more to do with coaching. Marrone was that much better than PP.

When the coaching situation was different, Edsall beat GROB and Marrone 5 years in a row by an average of 20 points per game.

Now we'll see if Shafer or Diaco is better.

The talent situation was also different, with us coming out of the GRob era. Most people recognize that coaching isn't the only factor, and certainly wasn't the MAIN factor during the stretch of games you describe.

I love how you conveniently cherry pick data to prove your goofy rationalizations. Typical uconn delusional drivel.

Not really. We won't be playing mid-majors from the AAC in football.

Edsall got his a#% handed to him this year by Shafer.

Diaco is going to have a difficult time being successful with every other major northeast program in a big time conference. The only school to play football games further away from their campus is UMass, and they're in the process of renovating their on campus stadium...

You are ignoring the fact that the University of CT, as an institution, has more to offer than just conference affiliation.

Fact is that if you are good enough and have the dream, we've proven over and over again the NFL will find you if you go to UCONN.

So, then it comes down to other things - do you want to play for this coach? Do you like this environment? Are you interested in a specific program at UCONN? Would you rather play in a lesser conference for a championship? Are you awed by our facilities? Did you grow up in CT?

In our 2008 class, we put 6 guys in the NFL and one more who still has a shot. Only two were rated by ESPN, 4 were unrated. Will those guys still want to go to UCONN? Think so.

Getting talent is a big part of coaching. This argument strengthens my point.

You just described us, pup. Except we've been doing is longer and better than you. 2008 was a long time ago. We had 3 guys this year, one started all year for the Giants as a first rounder. McNabb, Freeney, and Harrison could all end up in the hall of fame. How many UCONN pups ended up in the HOF?

As for owning the BE in BB for a quarter century - you must by smoking something.

Sure is. And what Marrone proved is that once our talent was on par with yours, it was blowout city in our favor.

The bottom has dropped out exponentially with your talent base. No matter how you rationalize it, you--at best--have an uphill climb. What is more likely is that you are in an insurmountable hole, by big boy conference standards. Second rate conference + lousy record + unproven coach + no real prospect of being elevated to a major conference isn't the recipe for rebuilding that you and your groupthink limited brethren would like to pretend. Heck, you'll be lucky to compete for the top half of the AAC in football, let alone respectability.

UMass in hoops and Temple in football; that's what is staring you in the face in three years once recruits get a sense of where your programs stand in the pecking order in both sports. Good luck recruiting once prospects figure out that you aren't playing quality teams anymore in the AAC.

Again, you make a great point. You are an NFL factory. You will win multiple future national championships. And even if you don't, you will attract stellar athletes and feed them into the pros. I'm with ya bro.

Not to mention, Diaco had his pick of jobs. He chose a Uconn. You are back. No two ways about it. Just glad we don't play you anymore.

Exactly. Talent was on par and Marrone blew out UCONN. Recruiting is part of coaching.

We are actually agreeing with each other but I seem to be the only one who realizes it.

I lived in Syracuse the day Calhoun was hired and I remember having lunch with a group of SU fans after we won our first BE championships. Its was unanimous that this was a one-time thing and what was great about the BE was that everyone a turn take their shot against SU and Georgetown. When I suggested that UCONN might stick around, everyone was convinced that it would never happen. Turns out Calhoun was a great coach and stuck around. Could Ollie be even better?

When UCONN joined the BE, this board was unanimous that is would be at least a decade before UCONN could even give SU a game.

Calhoun coaches football now? No wonder he retired from basketball, football is way better.

Don't bring basketball into a football conversation, they are not similar in any way. Especially recruiting and coaching.

Wow. Just wow.

But sure--grab onto whatever tidbit you need to fuel your rationalization.

Last week you were bragging here about the major hire storrs state was poised to make. What happened?

LOL

We have more 3 times as many 3 star players coming in next year as we did the class that put 6 guys in the NFL.

We have the best QB in UCONN history and he is a frosh. Our receivers are at a completely different level than what we've had in the past. We have a 10,000 yard HS running back coming in. If our line is good, it will be by far, our best offense in UCONN history.

Defense is a mess. So its kinda nice to have the best DC in the nation coming in as our new HC.

I expect to challenge for the AAC next season and win it 2 or the next 4 seasons. And one New Year Six bowl.

Good luck with that. A more likely outcome is that you'll struggle to get to .500 over the next 2-4 seasons, and then when you finally are on the cusp of barely achieving that milestone your coach will jump ship to a more promising opportunity. Just like what recently happened to Temple.

I agree. The point I was making is that SU fans have been wrong about nearly everything about UCONN athletics for 25 years.

You were right about PP :)

"Best in UCONN history" tells us all we need to know.

We can afford to pay our coach double what Temple can and we are paying Diaco more than what Golden makes at Miami.

That's what it took just to get an unproven commodity to accept coming to Storrs for a temporary stop.

Very undesirable job / locale / conference situation / long term potential.

You have only been playing D1 football for what 10 years? I have underwear older than your program, Some history.

One thing though, sdhusky is a great guy. Or so I have been told. Why are you still here? You know we think your program is doomed if you can't get in to a power conference. And you have convinced all of us of your potential greatness so that Syracuse will join Boston College in blocking you in to the ACC. Again, why are you here?

And when UCONN has had better coaching, we beat SU. And when SU has had better coaching, SU has beaten UCONN.

I'll take that as a hint to leave. Later folks.

Answer is pretty obvious:

I'm not a UConn hater. They did a great bowl moving up the football program. It was damn fast.

But it's not even worth the energy to discuss them until they're in a real conference. They are pretty much screwed, regardless of who the coach is.

Even alumni who take "dream" jobs make changes. Hell, Saban might use Alabama as a stop to TX.

I thought you were leaving. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

And when UCONN has had better coaching, we beat SU. And when SU has had better coaching, SU has beaten UCONN.

I mentioned neither coaching nor records, I mentioned longevity and History. Neither of which are a part of UCONN football. Stop deflecting and skirting every issue with your delusions.
