We did this a few weeks ago when someone asked for a pre-game recommendation, but not sure where that thread went and I am looking for something a little bit different. I am looking for a recommendation for a restuarant to give someone a gift certificate to as a Christmas present. Recipients would be a couple in their 60s - so it does not need to be kid friendly. I'm not looking for a coat and tie type of atmosphere, but want something a little bit better than a chain or your typical pre game pub fare.

I appreciate any recommendations you would care to make?

Based on that prior thread I ended up going to Laci's - a tapas place that's a couple of minute drive from campus. Enjoyed it a lot.

1060 at the Genesee Grande is a nice choice, especially if it is for a pre-game meal due to its proximity to the campus.

Lemon Grass in Armory Square is a great restaurant if they like Thai food (though they have non-Thai options). It's a little pricey though, so it might depend on how much you're willing to spend.

Same goes with Prime Steak House in Hanover Square. Pricey, but very good.

Genesee Grand is excellent, as is Empire. Haven't been to a bad place in armory square.

The Inn Between is probably the best retaurant I have eaten at in the Syracuse area. It is between Syracuse and Auburn, on Route 5. Very, very good. Easy to get to.

Thanks for the great suggestions. I screwed up and waited too long to do this. Many of these places are not open this Saturday when I need to pick up the gift certificate. $%#$@#%#

my parents are in their 60's, their favorite places to go when they visit are Delmonico's, Scotch & Sirloin, and Rico's.

edit: wow writing that just made me really hungry.

Since i'm fat right now and before i go on my annual big loser diet in january i can recommend a few places.
1. Asti's
2. Prime
3. Arid Evans in Fayetteville
4. Brewster Inn in Cazenovia
5. 1820 House in Bordino. (my personal favorite as it overlooks Skaneatles Lake)

Gentile's in Hawley-Green is pretty much at the top of the Syracuse heap as far as I'm concerned.

Many of the others mentioned are really good also. I'm a big Brewster Inn fan (Cazenovia is a bit of a hike for some, but it's a terrific restaurant).
