Just ordered two (Xmas gift and one for me) through a link that popped up on the board. They are $10 off with free shipping. Also, good to feed Tom some $$$ by buying through an ad here.

For the stingy b#stards, Amazon has it for $88 plus free shipping. And if you have an Amex card, you can get it for $63 on Amazon. Just make sure you first register for the $25 credit off $75 spent on Amazon at the Amex site. I bought one for myself yesterday doing this.

You may actually use Roku, Marsh. It allows you to stream any Watch ESPN/ESPN3 stuff directly to your TV. So that means you can watch even MORE games (unless you already have a Direct TV package where you get pretty much every sports channel ever).

My mom ordered one for me the other day for my Christmas present, it'll be here next week. I can't freaking wait.

I pay for almost every sports channel now. Might have to look into it

And I wouldn't bother with the $10 plastic mount. If you want to attach Roku to the back of your tv, you can do it with those 3m sticky strips. The thing weighs about 5 oz and is the size of a hockey puck.

They're awesome! If you have a cable service you can watch related channels without a box by using their app through ROKU. I've had one for over a year and love. it.

Yep, and I've heard that Netflix works much faster through Roku than through a WiFi connected Blu Ray player, which is what I use and have had some buffering problems with. Plus, it'll be nice to have HBO Go on there as well. It'll save me having to load up every season of The Wire, moving from disc to disc, when I watch the entire series again for the 328th time.

Can you get reg program channels like AbC, cbs, fox, nbc?
I believe you can stream them the same way you can stream shows on their websites - as in, not live, but day after type stuff. I'm not 100% on that, though.

do I have to have cable service
From what I've read, you need at least a minimum cable subscription. Kind of like how you can't watch ESPN3 unless you have a cable provider associated with it. You could conceivably reduce it to like $15/month or something if you only want CBS/ABC, etc, and still watch those shows on the Roku. You can also put Netflix and Hulu on Roku, so you can get some shows through those avenues. I believe you can get Amazon Instant on Roku, as well.

Yes you can.

I'm a TWC subscriber so I downloaded an app that allows me to watch all my TWC channels using my ROKU. I'm watching the SU vs Binghamton hoops game right now via an ESPN app. It's worth every penny.

Depends on what you want. I don't have cable. I only have high-speed internet but all the streaming services are available to me. WatchESPN works too but I don't get live games on ESPN or ESPN2. But I wouldn't get that with basic cable either. The dirty little secret of the cable companies is that the basic cable signal and the internet signal come through the same copper wire. If you have internet, you will most likely have basic cable too. So don't pay for it if you can avoid it!

Roku and other media streamers are the future, kids. Both ESPN and HBO have been talking this Fall about offering subscriptions to folks who don't have cable tv. Sony has recently signed a tentative deal to stream Viacom's networks (Nickolodeon, MTV, Comedy Central) on the blu-ray players and playstations. The other major players will likely make a deal with them too. It's all going to happen sooner than later. If I can get a cable-free ESPN subscription and Netflix, I'm pretty much set.
