OT: ROKU3

I just got my roku3 and one of the options is time travel ! 5 thumbs up!

the big difference is one only has wireless connection and roku3 has wired and wireless.

Plus, Roku 3 is only compatible with HDTVs, and also had a motion sensor remote that you can play games with, similar to a Wii. Angry Birds, for example, comes free with it. There are also other games, like a golf game, you can purchase.

The Roku 3 remote also has a headphone jack which is an awesome feature. Plug in the headphones and the TV automatically mutes, perfect for late night viewing when you don't want to disturb anyone with whatever demented soft core porn you've downloaded for streaming.

Question about blackouts.

If i drop down to basic cable with a Roku box, will SU games on one of the normal ESPN TV networks be blacked out on WatchESPN?

The impending doom of 2 in day care is really encouraging me to cut corners
I would expect the answer to be "yes". When you setup WatchESPN on your device it asks for your video provider's userid & password to verify subscription information.

Perhaps you should've had something else cut?

if the game is only on espn3 it wont matter what you have for cable as to whether its blacked out. if you have basic cable do you lose espn2/espnu?

one other thing for people . if you have directv you can buy PLAYON which is an addon channel for the ROKU and other devices. it installs on a PC in your house . with that you can use HBO2GO and watch it on the roku without a capture card..

In the Watertown flyer as well. What's the difference between Roku 2 & 3?
Chris...that refurb Roku2 might be nice to have for your travel trailer...if where you stay at has wireless. Call me when you get a chance and I'll tell you the pros/cons...not sure it is a slam dunk for you.

with the espn watch app mark, do they limit what you can get on it to what you have at home re TWC. So if one has their standard tv package with only espn and espn2 is that all you can get on the app that one would then try to ROKU3 it to ones TV?

I don't know why you keep going on about HBO2Go. Roku has HBO2Go as a channel.

If your internet/cable provider offers ESPN3 you can get that as well. You should be able to get all ESPN programming as long as you have cable and your internet provider is on the list.

This site gives a pretty complete and understandable overview of what you can do with a Roku 3, and earlier versions. Who should consider one and who shouldn't.

(sorry if someone already posted it)

Edit: Also covers Apple TV, Airplay, WDTV Live, Chromecast, TiVo...Playstation... Xbox...all streaming devices. Just scroll down the page.

well I'm going to find out since I just downgraded my TWC from the 200+ channels (what used be called digital package now called Variety or premier package) to the standard tv programing (20 or so local channels with another 70 cable ones on top of that). Also got rid of the DVR which always breaks one the dvr function broke, the replacement doesn't get espn and other channels so went to an old fashioned standard HD box without DVR.

The standard package doesn't have espnu, classic or espnnews so I'll be curious to see if the U and news are taken off my espnwatch app now. Hopefully not as you note. Thanks for the info. One last thing, where does TIVO fit into this discussion re Apple TV and ROKU 2/3. Same type thing? And do they sell just a dvr recorder that you can attatch to your home system (if not it may be back to good ole VCR for taping for me). BTW A big thanks from all us up there in years folks who are learning a lot via this thread and appreciate your guys input.
