OT - Rumor about Bud Foster at VT

Might be a blessing in disguise for them...promoting your DC to HC doesn't always work out. As for Bud, I am pretty sure he's gotten to the point where he realizes he might not be VT's next HC after all.

I am surpised VPI never named him HC in waiting. He must realize he isn't Beamer's successor and Texas A&M will pay him handsomely. I thought the next A&M DC would be Will Muschamp because he wouldn't want to tick Saban off going to Auburn.

Foster to A&M is good for both sides. VPI will get a good HC when Beamer retires it is a good job in a conference the coach could do damage and in a state with good HS talent. The #1 overall HS recruit was in VA this year and he just committed to Florida State yesterday.

Hampton Roads area has always been stocked with talent. I don't know if anyone's studied it but I have to think that it has something to do with all the military people there. Would be interesting to see how many top recruits from that area are army brats. It's always been a bit of a puzzle to me why there aren't more recruits from Watertown and Fort Drum. Maybe because there are more transients at Fort Drum than in the Hampton Roads area?

Didn't Indian River just win the NYS title? I know they had that Dukes kid a few years back who went to Penn St.

I've wondered that too with Drum...but man Indian River put the smackdown on Queensbury for the NY State Class A title this year.

I wanted Bud Foster to at least be considered for our job when GRob got it and Marrone got it.

Supposedly Bud is lacking in the "people skills" aspects of being the HC, and would find schmoozing with the alums and donors painful at best.

You have to be careful when it comes to rumors about VPI coaches moving to other schools. We have a concept on our board called "Beamering" in which you make noises about going someplace else in order to get a raise from your present school. Frank made it into an art form with his alleged romance with UNC before they hired either Davis or Fedora (can't remember which). He all but had moving vans from Chapel Hole park in front of his house.

he was my guy for the job. i hate poaching intraconference but they had already left. wrath i heard here was that he was too well compensated and never going anywhere. (sound familiar hoops fans?) VA TECH has always fielded excellent D's under bud.
