Syracuse, N.Y. -- Redshirt senior offensive lineman Ryan Alexander left the Syracuse football team this week, two sources told The Post-Standard/Syracuse.com.

SU Athletics declined to address Alexander’s status despite multiple inquiries this week starting Wednesday evening. Alexander has not responded to multiple messages on social media.

Freshman Matthew Bergeron, who has served as a top reserve through seven games, practiced at right tackle this week and is a candidate to start against Florida State, according to a source.

Well... bummer this didn't work out.

It is a shame. My understanding is that Alexander was not capable of playing at the fast pace Syracuse prides itself on playing. I am sad this didn’t work out but I would not be surprised to see us really play fast all game long for the first time this season. Even if Matt makes some mistakes and struggles, this is probably going to be for the best.

Yeah the upshot here is if Vettorello and Bergeron become an effective pair of tackles you're talking about having anchors on both ends of the line for the next three seasons.

secondary issue is this plays with depth even more.. now our #1 tackle is at center and our #2-3 is gone, now playing with perhaps our 3-4th best options so another injury is really playing with fire..
