OT: Shooting at Va Tech

That campus is essentially in the middle of nowhere. It's not like you would expect big city crime to be spilling over onto the campus. My guess is it's drug related. Dude is probably a dealer with a long rap sheet somewhere. He gets pulled over by campus police, has the stuff in the car and doesn't want to get caught. He shoots the officer and runs through parking lot. He sees a witness who can identify him and shoots the witness.

I went to school in rural area upstate. Any of the major crime that occurred was usually connected to " students" from the major NYC area and their friends. There were several break ins on our campus where electronics and car stereos were stolen. They eventually traced the break ins to a guy at the two year school across the street and his friends from one of the boroughs. They would come up on a weekend and hit apartments and cars while the students were out partying.

I gotta believe this guy at VaTech is an outsider or is a student with a 'side business'. I hope they catch the bastard and let the football team use him for tackling practice.

Still wouldn't be a harsh enough penalty that community has been through hell and back over the past few years

I spent about 4 nights down there in February 1999 during my junior year. We roadtripped from WVU to JMU and to VT and stayed at our fraternity's houses. The JMU stop was cut short and we ended up at VT in the middle of the night on a Wednesday, like at 3am. They could not have treated us better. I have an affinity for that school and they have been through too much.

I meant for illegal hit practice. You know, helmet to helmet, without the helmet...blast the knees...etc.

I agree. It's too good for this guy.
