OT: Tailgate preferences

I hope this will enlighten some of you led by marketing and 'mass' appeal. There is a reason why us 'beer snobs' won't touch American lagers.

Beer you shouldn't drink and why

Good luck and happy tailgating
Why am I supposed to care about Genetically Modified corn, corn syrup etc. The fact that of those 3 lists of beer to buy I have only heard of 3 tells me this is a very narrow minded article. Just because something is organic does not make it better, it just makes it organic.

Side note: My brother is visiting. He drinks nothing but IPA's and craft brews. Will he be able to tell if I serve him the IPA's leftover from last year when he came down or do I have to buy him new ones?

Bud light is 4.2% ABV. In a 12 ounce can that means that you get 0.504 oz of actual alcohol in 1 beer. In one 6 pack you will get 3.024oz of booze.

Saranac Legacy IPA is 6.5%. In a 12 ounce can that equates to 0.78 ounces of actual alcohol in 1 beer. In one 6 pack you will get 4.68oz of booze.

What this mean is that if I drink 4 Legacy IPA's I still get more alcohol than somebody who drinks a 6 pack of Bud light.

BTW, 6.5% isn't very high for a craft beer. Some IPA's like 471 Small Batch come in at 9.2%. A six pack of that will get you to 6.62oz of booze.

Essentially you need to drink over a 12 pack to equal the same buzz as 6 471s. Your claim that you can get as 'ed up as possible via large quantities of light beer isn't true. You can get more 'ed up by drinking half as much craft beer. Oh yeah you will piss 1/2 as much too. By the way, as you can see from these calculations, cheap beer isn't as cheap as you might think since you need twice as many.
It's the principle of slugging down 10+ cans of light, cheap beer out in the sun with buddies. If I have to explain it, you'll never get it.

craft beer! :)

The non-organic beers listed below the organics are also good beers. I agree I don't care about organic, but I do care about adjunct sweeteners, they use table sugar and corn syrup instead of real malt. It makes the beer dry and watery as those added fermentable sugars leave behind no body. The entire list at the bottom of the page is good. Sierra Nevada, Dogfish, Victory, Heineken, Amstel, etc.

Legacy is very good. Saranac's best effort

i'm a meathead about tailgate beer. I reject your froofy analytics, pyle. no mathletes allowed at my tailgate. one added bonus of lite beer is that the world's funniest and most profane bum and his inexplicable intern will rationally decide to stop walking around collecting bottles and just wait in one place for your empty lite cans of piss. you can't put a number on that

You just said the principle is to get as 'ed up as possible before the game. When I proved that it could be done more efficiently you changed your tune. Want to drink cheap crappy beer then go ahead, it really doesn't affect me. I was simply trying to prove that drinking cheap beer doesn't add up in the long run despite what people think. As you said, if I have to explain it to you then you'll never get it.

I like both for different situations but if I'm going to be tailgating for 2+ hours I go the light beer route. Also, Yuengling is usually a good compromise if you're bringing together craft beer fans and light beer drinkers and can only provide 1 type of beer.

I've got nothing...you win lol.

For some reason whenever I drink Miller Lite draft, I always get a caramel aftertaste. Don't know why, but I never argued.

Oh, I get it.

It's nothing to do with efficiency. Let's just drink 151 then.

:) Deal. First one's on you!

Bonus points if you light it on fire first!

Hey, the good news is that it's easier to piss out all that cheap beer when you're 1/2 as drunk, amirite?

So to wrap it all up:

Cheap beer tastes worse, is worse for you, has mystery ingredients, takes longer for you to feel it's effects - but it doesn't make you feel as full.

Saranac all the way.

yesterday, you assigned homework.

today, i need an abacus to read your post.

i havnt been in school for over 20 years and im dying for a summer vacation here...

let me put it this way:

$$$ is no object.
there will be plenty of hard liquor to go around.
hindsight has taught me that i will have a beer in my hand froom 8am till 12:45 when i get patted down to go into the Stadium.
i actually like the taste of BudLight.
im not afraid of the johnnys on the spot.

line em up.

oh, and bottle beer people are amature tailgaters (as well as picnicers, campers and drinkers on the go).

Saranac sells cans of it's IPA. FYI.

:-p
BTW, the Class VI store at Ft Drum had it last summer...I'll check again before FB season.

Better yet, take a ride to Utica and go to the source at Matt's brewery store:
(Just happened to there today and had lunch just down the street.)

Plus a variety of Saranacs to choose from as well.

I can't believe people get all nutty about what others drink at a tailgate.

Speaking of Saranac, don't laugh at me...but Utica Club is damn fine Tailgate lager.
Utica Club is a good beer. Had some at the Maryland tailgate last fall. I grew up with UC, my high school buddy Mike C.'s father worked there and he had a whole fridge full in the garage.

If you are starting at the appropriate early time and having pre-tailgated the night before, I would recommend a Bloody Mary so thick it takes a legit effort to stir.

Possibly throw in a slab of beef jerky for some added protein.

But for beer, I always assume Bud Light is safest, but I'm with TexanMark on this, Labatt Blue and Light are great choices.

I've decided: Syracuse Pale Ale and Utica Cllub. No hard liquor--I've learned the hard way in my squandered youth that I cannot tolerate mixing the two. Exception: Bloody Mary at home before leaving for a (ugh!) nooner.

Very interesting article. Thanks for the link, Pyle. Passed it on to my bro-in-law who is enamoured with a few of the brews mentioned. Not that it will change his mind, but at least it will give me increased satisfaction in telling him "I can't believe you' re still drinking that p*ss even after I showed you what's in it!"

Not being judgemental--each to his own.

Your momma drinks warm high fructose corn syrup.
