OT: The Kyle Orton Era begins in Buffalo...

How about the JJ Watt pick six where Watkins was wide open but nah, the read is FJax so thats where the ball is going even though the play was completely blown the **** up. At the very least, eat the play, run ahead for as many yards as you can get and then kick the FG. That play was totally absurd.

I cannot comprehend the thought that went through his head as he was about to throw that pass. Where in holy hell did he think he was gonna fit that past Watt???

if you ignore chicago, orton's been ok

sincerely, mrs lincoln

He wasn't that bad in Chicago actually. He had almost no help on offense and terrible coordinators.

This. I watch other QB's read the defense before the snap and know exactly where the opening in the defense is going to be. There was a play in particular yesterday where you could see there was a blitz coming up the middle. Spiller swung out to the right UNCOVERED and EJ tried to force it into Chandler in the middle of the field, incomplete of course. A smart QB would have recognized that and gotten the ball out to Spiller immediately.

And don't even get me started on all the balls he throws to receivers who are only half way into their routes and not looking for the ball yet. That moron Solomon Wilcots kept trying to place that blame on the receivers. Should they be running their routes constantly looking at the QB???
this is the NFL. most throws should be thrown in time which means throwing before the break. you think peyton waits until they turn on the out throws? maybe some short/middle throws but everything else needs to be thrown before they turn. this is the issue we see with hunt.. he waits until they are open instead of trusting they will be open when the ball gets there.

There's a difference between throwing on the break and throwing when they are only half way into the route. He's got guys running 10 yard curls and he's throwing a rocket after they are 5 yards down the field.

His last pick to end the game was also awful. Just a lob into coverage with over the top help.

Awful.

Look, EJ seems like he is a nice guy, and he has had flashes. But this is the NFL. There should be no hurt feelings here. If you underperform, you can get benched. I think it might do him well to see things from the sidelines.

Not to mention the Texans were getting gashed, on their heels and we had over a minute left at their 40 yard line or so. He threw that pass like it was a desperation 4th down throw.

Still not giving up on him completely, but the dude needs to step back and see things from the sidelines. Unfortunately, he never should have been a starter from Day 1. But the Kolb injury put an end to that. Hopefully this isn't a complete confidence killer but I'm afraid it could be.

Eh, this is the NFL. If this kills your confidence, you'll never make it.

Someone check on nirvana
It's all good. I'm pretty numb to anything that happens with the Bills at this point. Starting to look more and more like you were right about Marrone and Co. all along.

Well...the AFCE is looking pretty wide open.

Very true - how often in the past 15 years have Bills fans been able to say that after Week 4 they're in first place in the division (only team with no divisional losses).

I think 9-7 will win that division this year, and they'll host a better 11-5 wild card team like Baltimore or San Diego in the playoffs.

I can't put too much blame on Marrone and Hackett. The team is clearly talented. Top 10 Defense, playmakers all over the field etc. I need to see them with Orton at QB because EJ was mediocre at best in the 2 wins, gave them no chance to win against SD and straight up lost the game for us against Houston.

The Offensive Line has struggled some, however in run blocking, they are going up against 8 man fronts because noone respects EJ's ability to pass or read defenses and in pass protection EJ never seems to pick up the blitz in a pre-snap read or call out blocking assignments and never hits the hot receiver.

Hackett gets some blame but he has designed an offense that if you watch the All-22 of each game has WRs running WIDE OPEN. EJ just doesnt see them or erratically throws the ball 15 yards away from them.

I like Marrone and really hope that with average QB play we can see what he's all about because he's been hamstrung through the first 4 games with the worst QB in the NFL.

Agreed. Bill Barnwell on the Grantland podcast - "the Bills would've won that game with Charlie Whitehurst". Ouch. Really makes you wish the Detroit/Houston games were flipped. I still like me some +7.5 this week though, especially if Megatron is still banged up.

I don't normally follow the Bills - do we think DM signed off on EJ or was it shoved down his throat?

It's hard to tell where the blame really lies. Of course Manuel is going to be the scapegoat for everyone at least until Sunday. And granted, I can no longer defend his play after the debacle in Houston.

But personally I think Manuel has been overcoached and the staff has done a poor job with him. They've made him paranoid and more robotic than he already was by teaching him to not use his running ability and athleticism (you know, the reason he was a first round pick to begin with) and instead be strictly a pocket passer. How dumb is that? As a result he looks like Tweak from South Park as soon as the ball is snapped.

I also think Marrone has done an atrocious job with the OLine, which is a huge disappointment considering his background. The guard position has been a train wreck since Day 1.

But maybe everyone will play better with a veteran under center. We'll see what happens the rest of the way.

Fair points. We always try to make things an either/or but I think both things are true - he's been overcoached and is a trainwreck independent of that.
I think even the Bills knew he wasn't a 1st round pick if not for the athleticism (and most thought he wasn't anyway) so...What was the plan with him this year?

Guard is definitely a problem but when that's basically your only glaring non-QB sore spot, you ought to be an above average if not very good team if you get competent QB play. No team is perfect.

I know that sideline fade prayer that always lands about three yards out of bounds won't be missed. JFC who else does that in the 2014 NFL.

Don't mind threads on past players that's what matters but marrone and the bills are irrelevant to me. I'll start talking about the dolphins or Syracuse crunch soon on here then.
