Yesterday I was talking with some people that work for a couple of different universities and have connections to others, and the topic of donations came up. None of the donations they were talking about were related to sports, but, still, the amount of money being talked about was ridiculous. One guy talked about a conversation he had with a Duke employee. He told the story of a potential donor wanting to give them $40 million. With the donation, he had outlined how he wanted it used. Duke responded they would gladly accept his donation and use it as they saw fit, but if the donor insisted on directing where it was to go, they wouldn't be needing it. Another story was about Min Kao (one of the co-founders of Garmin), and how he donated $17.5 million to the University of Tennessee $12.5 million going for a new electrical engineering building and the rest for professorship endowments.

Is SU receiving donations like this for academic departments?

Newhouse gets some decent contributions, but it does overall seem like we have a lack of lump sum,, or big name donors compared to other universities. I think i remember binghamton receiving a large donation a few years ago when an alum passed away

That's my 79 bucks. It should have been more, I know, but I entirely forgot about looking under the sofa cushions.

Did you tell them that a bunch guys you know looked under their couch cushions and redeemed empty beer cans to came up with $50k for good ole SU?
hey man... I was looking for full beers

Syracuse costs nearly $60,000 a year to attend. How in any way could the University not have a surplus of money?
