OT: USF names 4 star Flowers QB

Well if we can't handle this kid then heaven help us against guys like Watson. Flowers is a 4 star, but according to ESPN so was AJ. No excuse if we lose to these guys

In terms of performance, recruiting, and coaching situation, these teams are currently very similar.

Their coach is in a much worse position. We've had one bowl season and one injury plagued bad one.

How can we compete with this? This looks like something SU would do...LOL

Exactly. 17 of 22 starters missed at least 4 games last year, but hey, Shafer is a bum and in as bad a shape as Taggert. All I know is we absolutely should take USF out.

My instinct sez we should be a 3-7 pt favorite heading into the game. Winnable but not a given.

Certainly not a given, very true. But I certainly expect us to take them out.

Recruiting services think he recruits as well or better than Shafer and we think Shafer is a great recruiter.

True. He's a great recruiter, but much like London at UVa - results game not matched. He's also been there a year longer, I think.

Record wise - Shafer is better. And in a tougher league.

We are dealing with small sample sizes, but fair enough.

My point is that these programs are much closer than we would like. Long term, I believe we should expect Syracuse to be a superior program, but at this point they have not established that superiority.

Mediocre mid-major team.

This is exactly what so many of you are clamoring for as a OOC opponent.

Must win.

Scooch it is a great OOC opponent for us. I'd love to play them semi-regularly. USF has kicked our butt numerous times...they should be respected as a worthy opponent. They are getting the same type of FL recruits we get plus they seem to get a few higher rated rebound kids (transfer back to FL to be close to home).

I think on paper we are slightly stronger this year as a team but this game will be a good one.

There coach is on the hot seat but he has won at WKU...like Shafer this is his 3rd year. Some parallels between both.

I think the Wake Forest game will be the biggest barometer game this year...USF will be a close 2nd. Both are must wins towards a bowl game.

The play in a crap conference in front of more tarp than people. Not sure there is an actual school there. They beat us up in the Grob years but that was a while ago now.

It's a good game for Florida fans that don't want to go to Tallahassee.

That's fine. To me they're a mid-major that plays in a half-empty NFL stadium. We play in Florida every other year, and hopefully the ACC can figure out how we can play in Miami more than once every 12.

If we never played them again I wouldn't notice or care. If people really want to play golf in Florida we don't need to schedule USF for that to happen.

But my point was that there were a lot of people screaming that scheduling Wisconsin was horrible, and that we should only schedule four mid-major OOC games every year. Well, USF fits that description to a T. If our program is in any kind of good shape we should easily win these kinds of games.

Lately we play in a half empty Dome...sigh...

I don't understand this superior attitude...USF beat us during the Marrone era too.

Tally is not a convenient location and until we get more competitive it is painful to sit there and watch us get clobbered...games in Tampa, Orlando, Boca Raton make awesome OOC games.

They're a mid major directional. That's a UConn thing, not a Syracuse thing.

I'm all for playing in places where our fans can see us, but that's all it is.

They had 15 minutes and it's up. You don't get much room for error in those situations, so when the coach who got you there started choking players, that was the beginning of the end.

Has nothing to do with being superior. It's a non-P5 game in a thoroughly uninteresting venue, that's all.

Exactly, non-P5 versus a bottom 5 in the P5...
And the non-P5 has TWO 4-star qbs on their roster...
