OT: We're #1! ...seriously, just for futbol not football

I legitimately never thought I would see this day. Soccer was such an afterthought when I was at SU, it was sometimes easy to forget we actually had a program.

Amazing how far they've come in 10 years.

So awesome. What a turnaround. Gotta hand it to Gross for getting the program rolling.

This is awesome. Any possible future pros/U.S. nationals on this squad you guys think?

Amazing accomplishment for the program in a really short amount of time.

Right now we have:
#1 Men's soccer
#3 Men's cross country
#6 Field Hockey
#16 Women's cross country
#23 Men's basketball
#25 Women's basketball

Not too shabby for a little school in Central New York.

Women's soccer, volleyball and ice hockey and their coaches are on the clock. No reason for those programs to not crack the rankings.

The GK, Bono, is likely to leave after this season to turn pro. Defenders Skylar Thomas and Jordan Murrell are possible MLS draftees and there is always the chance that top scorer Ekblom returns to Europe. This is probably the best chance they will have to get to the Final Four.

Not bad for Radisson.

Within a couple of years kids drafted into the MLS, MLB, and NHL.

i youtubed some of that ekblom kid a while back. holy crap

how did they track all these kids down?

Two very good recruiters. One (Miller) is now at Duke and was key to getting the Toronto kids (Thomas, Murrell, Nanco, Halis) and the other (Masalin) has great European connections and was the one who landed Ekblom and Avseth.

It's too bad the Hale kid left to go to UCLA a couple of years ago. People told me he'd be the best player on this year's squad.

McIntyre has always had great European connections going back to his Hartwick days. Historically Hartwick had a great Euro pipeline (hence McIntyre playing at Hartwick). It makes sense that he would continue it at SU, though I imagine he can recruit much better at Syracuse.

This was a homerun hire by Gross.

What Gross has done for non-revenue sports at SU is nothing short of remarkable.

I know a lot of people here only care about football, men's hoops and men's lacrosse. Jake C shared that POV.

But as an alumni I know that we are a much better university for having successful Olympic sports programs.

Just hope we get a championship during this great run for one of these teams.

For all the money spent on them, not getting a title in the next couple of years would be disappointing.
