You should scratch your name into the walls. I hear they recommend everyone does it.
The French are lovely. It's the Parisians who can be terribly rude.I was in Bologna last year, which is pretty anti American being a huge university city, and everyone was really lovely for the most part. I find Europeans who hate Americans to be rather adorable. Like "aww, you think you matter to me? Here's a nickel." But I've really found rude Euros to be few and far between. Even in France.

Place is falling apart. No luxury suites. If you’re hungry you have to pray your wife has a granola bar in her purse. One restroom. Rome really needs replace this place. It’s almost as bad as Jacksonville’s stadium.

I haven’t been a ton of places, but never really found a big issue. Vatican, Coliseum and Forum tours are musts. You can do them all in one day. I was exhausted after, but definitely doable in one day. The Forum might be my favorite historic site I’ve ever visited. Walking the same streets as Julius Caesar and so many legendary historical figures is mind blowing.Seems like lots of Italy travelers. My daughter & boyfriend will be going to a wedding Sicily this fall. After the wedding, we are going to Rome for 4-5 days. We have the option of seeing other sites/cities then meeting them in Rome or seeing Sicily Sat - Teusday, then going to Rome together.
Any thoughts from anyone?
Note: my wife and I did a week in Rome about 3 years ago, so another full week is not an option.
I want a shoe with cheese on it and I want to massage your grandmother.
Not if you know the right grandmaYou usually have to pay extra for that last part.

I'm a big fan of this approach to traveling in a place like Rome. Hit all the big touristy stuff in the first day or two. Then spend the rest of the time walking and trying to get more of a feel for the culture outside of those attractions. I hit those three immediately and then we spent most of our time chilling out in Trastevere, and walked around without much of an agenda the rest of the time.Vatican, Coliseum and Forum tours are musts. Thanks, but we did those on our last trip and will do again with my daughter. Looking for some lesser known sites and scenes for our time before we get to Rome.Vatican, Coliseum and Forum tours are musts. You can do them all in one day. This is what the wife and I did. It was a long day but totally worth it. Forum was awesome.Vatican, Coliseum and Forum tours are musts. You can do them all in one day. Check out Capri if you can. Really beautiful island and worth a day trip as long as you are okay with the boat ride over.Seems like lots of Italy travelers. You didn't spend enough time in Florence. I love that place. Lived there a semester with the SU Architecture program.
I also LOVED going to Pompei, but that was for three reasons. I was always fascinated by the story of how Vesuvius entombed people in the eruption, I did my first "architectural analysis" of a Pompei palazzo when a freshman at SU, so that was "nostalgic", and I love Pink Floyd. Thanks, but we did those on our last trip and will do again with my daughter. Pompeii was a bucket list I did last year. And as amazing as it was, I like the forum better because it was places I studied and knew about. This is what the wife and I did. It was a long day but totally worth it. Forum was awesome.
We also went to Naples, Capri, and toured Pompeii.
I think 2-3 days in Rome is plenty if you take the tours in one day and leave the other two for simpler exploring and less touristy things.
across from the forum is another museum. It’s by Trajan‘s column. It’s basically a Roman office building/mall. I’m pretty sure it was like an administrative building and where shops were. Which is pretty awesome when you think about that. Imagine some Roman administrator at 5 o’clock on Friday just stamping you free because your slave master wanted to marry you. Thanks, but we did those on our last trip and will do again with my daughter.
