OTL on Bernie Fine situation now

No. There is a separate reply by Davis about JB calling him a liar where Davis said JB never saw anything so how would he know.

Right. I assumed Davis meant JB never saw Fine allegedly abuse him, so how could he call him a liar. Not that he never saw him in Bernie's room.

The fact that the former babysitter would put words in Lori Fine's mouth like that is just infuriating.

OTL has absolutely nothing new, so they just replay the same crap that amounts to little more than baseless accusations, only they do it a little more forcefully and with more insinuation. Outstanding journalism, that.
But the babysitter knew he was a confident, outgoing kid when he was 10. But closed off later. What? She was able to discern and also remember who was an outgoing/condifent kid when she was 10 herself? That was 29 years ago

I find it amazing that ESPN has allowed Schwarz to continue to totally spin this one way. The role of the media is to report the facts not to create stories and/or slant things. This has been one sided all the way. He has failed to point out the many many holes in Davis' story. And on top of that he has the nerve to put the guys ex GF on who has nothing to say. Why not put on some ex players? They actually have more credibility than she does.

Even if Fine is 110% guilty, this has been a total hatchet job by Schwarz.

I completely agree--Schwartz, by acting as interpreter for these two--is creating news, not reporting it.

Which is why I think Jason Whitlock had that critical tweet about him this morning.

This is only news on ESPN btw. We're not even on CNN's top headlines in the sports section and no major news outlets are even reporting it anymore.

Wait, I am to believe that Fine's wife knew he was molesting kids (when he had kids) and did nothing except make veiled references to the babysitter? REally? I am supposed to believe that? ESPN knows we are educated people, right?

I watched this also and though I feel Davis is definitely hurting over something,(IMHO who goes on national media and does this when you have kids?) However, I am not convinced that Fine is guilty of anything at this point.
I was shocked by the reporting and the story telling that has been going on by ESPN. The references and implication that Fine wife was aware of the situation, and did nothing shocked me. ESPN implied she told the babysitter, it's strange they are always behind closed doors, and why do you think he waits at the top of the stairs for you to leave (paraphrasing) I find this kind of reporting really troubling.

That's a good point. The day it came out you could see the story everywhere, now if you want to read about what's going on you have search around for information.

I'm not that concerned about any tape that ESPN might have at this point, because my guess is that it is entirely circumstantial at best--one of those things that can be interpreted in a lot of ways without context. In other words, there might be a sound byte that if viewed through a certain context could appear damaging, but probably isn't really that impactful.

Which is why I wouldn't be surprised to see ESPN / Schwartz artificially setting things up [per the highlighted text above]. Schwartz has been senationalizing / pontificating about what happened since the beginning. If they have some taped comments or footage from Fine's wife that is circumstantial [we've heard that it might contain her saying "Get over it" or something along those lines]--then what better way to try to attach significance to it by telling us in advance that Fine's wife knew about things?

"Look...we're telling you that Fine's wife knew something, so that's how you--the viewing public--should interpret this tape..."

I qualify all of the above by acknowledging that I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but that would seem to fit the pattern for how ESPN [and Schwartz specifically] have reported on this.

Yeah, I kind of got the feeling they might be using those comments about Fine's wife as some sort of segue into a subsequent story digging further into that.

ANYONE CATCH THE BLATANT CONTRADICTION by Davis he said previously Jim Boeheim saw them in bed together and did nothing and NOW he said how would Jim Boeheim know what was going on when he was never in room. Unbelievable awful job by Schwarz who didn't even edit a statement that hurts his own witness.
I don't know how this went by without comment. It was literally back to back in the interview.

Davis: JB had to know, he saw me on his bed tons of times.

(Clip of JB saying he never went in Fines room, and he thinks Davis is lying)
(Cut back to 3rd Davis interview)

Davis: How could JB know, he was never there at Fines house at night.

Regardless of Fines guilt, how was this big inconsistency not addressed?

Ugh, I think I had a post eaten.

I think Davis is referencing 2 different things here.

1) JB said he never saw Davis in Bernie's room. Davis is saying that isn't true.
2) JB says Davis is lying about being molested. Davis is saying JB was never there when he was molested, not that he never saw him in the room.

Can anyone confirm he has kids? I mean if he was getting molested at 27 I doubt he was married by then. Also if he was married why not use his wife to tell how difficult it is on a daily basis for Davis?

Media outlets have zero credibility these days. They have a vested interest in sensationalism and making the story as juicy as possible for as long as possible. The old journalistic guidelines about even handed reporting are totally ignored.

That was actually the first time I had heard anything about him having kids. Has it been mentioned at all before and I missed it? I was taken aback a bit by it.

First time I heard it too. I was taken aback as well.

Next he will claim Bernie is the father, and when that's disproven Bernie will do a dance like the guys on Maury when the results come back negative.

When he was crying in that interview did it sound like he was saying he wanted to do this for his kids or other abused kids? I missed that.

I would laugh so hard if these two are in on a plot to help Syracuse gain money. One that syracuse has no knowledge of. I don't care how high they are they would go down as two of the greatest fans in the history of sports.

Both. He said he was doing this to help kids who have this happen to them, but also said he couldn't imagine someone doing this to his kids.

The sad part of this whole story is that this drug-addict has kids.

Now they have a woman that says she witnessed the interaction between Davis and Fine and says, "I could just tell there were a lot of secrets there, a lot of closed doors."

Pretty crazy. I didn't have any respect for ESPN before, but wow, this is beyond the pale (whatever that means).

If ESPN had incriminating substantive, factual matters to report, they would not be reporting the negative opinions of people that did not witness any misconduct. Crazy.

They have nothing else to report in this story since there is no evidence. Next step is one hour of interviews with random people from North Dakota saying that Bernie "just looks kinda guilty in this official picture of him you gave me".

I agree with Knicks411, it is pretty easy to reconcile the statements (although there is a contradiction). It is pretty reasonable to construe Davis's statement as this:

"JB knew something weird was going on, he gave funny looks when he saw me in Fine's bed, but no JB couldn't know the details of the abuse, because he wasn't there to witness those details."

It will be important to see the facts regarding where Davis traveled. I have got to think phone and hotel records will be more important, factually, then any of these marginal contradictions. For example, Davis may have met Bernie both through his step-brother and by selling candy. It's hard for me to remember how I met my childhood neighbors, and it wouldn't be shocking if I said "through my sister" one time, and "through baseball" another: with both being true.

Wasn't there stories by the babysitter that Davis met Bernie for the first time in the 5th grade and elsewhere he said he was malested first in the 7th?

There have been three different versions of how the two met. All three are offered by ESPN interchangeably. They are not that concerned with details apparently. You can almost see Bob Ley saying "Stop focusing on facts and see the big picture dammit! He's a monster!!"
