Our constant over scheduling contributes to the problem

Over-scheduling is playing at Missouri in late November, not playing Maryland at home in September.

Win the two home games that SU should have won and with a 5-3 record, no one is really complaining about the schedule.

I just wish the MetLife money would have gotten an IPF built 5 years ago and gone towards coaching salaries instead of having to cover the SUAD's debts.

If we won the games were supposed to (Maryland/NC State) we'd be fine. Unfortunately, with his schedule, we can't afford to lose any other games.

That's the whole point though...we'll be fine...average at best. SU has absolutely no wiggle room for error and they do not have that type of talent to execute this type of schedule. I'd by far rather be 4 and 0 OOC and have more guys healthy going into the ACC.

Everyone likes a winner. When the TV heads talk about your team, unlike in Basketball, they never mention your powerful SOS.
You have to plan to win 6, otherwise you are forgotten about. Teams like Duke did not revitalize playing a tough OCC.
It is very clear from the success of our peers that nobody gives a sXXt how you got to 6 wins. I will trade a tough OCC for a bowl game every time.

Patriot League + MAC + American + 1 of Kansas, Indiana, Rutgers, Vanderbilt or Purdue + ACC schedule = Bowl Games.

Rinse, Wash, Repeat.

I've come to a point where an OOC schedule of Lehigh, Buffalo, UCONN and Rutgers would be very welcome.

Sure, everyone wants to play ND, but most others do their best to pencil in 3 other wins. We don't, and this year may have been the easiest out of conference in a while, but according to Sagarin the SOS is 24th right now. That "sucky" program Maryland will probably win 8 games this year (SOS 23rd).

This isn't the Graves to McNabb era Cuse. We need all the progress we can get right now - it's called program building. With all the bowl tie ins, etc there isn't the need to impress voters and committees as there once was. Most programs do it. It is very, very rare that P5 teams play 2 other P5 teams in their OOC games year in and year out. I would sway we might be one of 4-5 that do it.

Can you name the last elite OOC matchup Baylor has had? TCU in 2011.
maryland is 77th in total offense and 85th in defense against p5 opponents

they suck

college football should be fun. going to LSU is fun. i'd rather go to LSU in september than go 6-6 with wins against colgate, buffalo, central michigan, villanova, wake forest, and Pitt with a christmas morning road trip to fargo to play central michigan again.

Maryland does not "suck" ... they are an average team much like SU with possibly more talent. I'd love to be 6-3 and suck right now.

the numbers say they suck

if you average everyone's p5 offense and defense rankings and rank them, they're 91st.

we're 35th

part of the reason we're 35th is because we got to play maryland

speaking of maryland, had we played WVU and South Florida OOC this year like they did, people would be making the same complaints about overscheduling

We actually have 4 automatic losses already next year. Clemson comes to the Dome and unless Watson is out again we are dead meat in that game too. So now we need six wins out of eight for a bowl. Pretty slim margin considering Pitt, BC, UVA and NC State are all as good or better than us. Outside of Wake nothing is a semi-lock in conference
Welp, might as well pack it in and not even play next year!!
Ridiculous.

agree. our scheduling is fine right now. We lost to a mediocre Maryland team and a terrible NC State team. those two wins put us at 5-4 and almost a lock to be bowling. Blame the injuries, the coaching, the program as a whole... but this schedule is not impossible. Some of the people ripping it now are the very same people who before the year said "finally a schedule that sets up nicely for us".

Cant have it both ways. we had a shot to impress on the national stage multiple times, and laid egg after egg. truth is, we have laid 7 eggs in 9 games this year. Coaching is not all about "rah rah"... you need to produce wins also.

Maybe we should have just stayed in the AAC, then we could've assured ourselves of making a bowl game every year!

Maryland is pretty good - and they made some big plays in our game. The team we beat last year isn't the team we played this year.

Did people really say that? I know people felt it gave us a chance at being 3-0 going into ND. But the smart people felt the schedule screwed us with a stupid bye week in week 2 and then getting ND, Lville, FSU and Clemson in a 5 week period as well as ending with back to back road games. This schedule hardly set up nice for us.

aside from moving the ball and stopping people from moving the ball, they're ok

They've played OSU, Wisconsin and WV who just happen to have very good offenses. I get your point about their defense not being great but seriously those 3 teams have some very talented offensive ability.

and they got beat 144-68 in those games.

good for them for playing 3 good teams. lots of teams play 3 good teams. they can have a cookie but they still suck

I didn't say that at all, but those 4 games are pretty damn bleak going in. I think we will be a bowl team next year, just making the point that with the current state of the program it isn't going to be easy to get bowl eligible and playing LSU doesn't help.

They're sitting on a 6 wins and blew the WVU game. That's pretty good.

I'm just simply saying those 3 games will skew the defensive numbers a bit and again I'd love to suck and be 6-3.
