Our Rpi gap vs #2

oh yeah, and btw, Syracuse has the #1 ranked Strength of Schedule now ... for all the haters out there.

you'd think our SOS would shut up all the haters out there, but it doesn't...trust me, I tried, it's almost as if people don't believe when I point out their SOS in the RPI.

Are those statistics on SOS really valid? Sagarin computer ratings has Syracuse SOS at #95 out of 345 = pretty good but no way near #1.

THE RPI is starting to straighten out a little bit, you don't have Northern Iowa in the top 5 anymore, but there are still some outliers. Don't think we have played the toughest schedule in the country.

Btw, just looked them up. Tulane is 0-2 in C-USA now. I think some people may have been fooled by their undefeated record, but I'd be stunned if they challenge for C-USA. Marshall is tied for first though. Stanford is 3-1 in the Pac 12, half a game out of first. Most of the other teams we played are still too early in their conference season.

How about Seton Hall?

SU has 5 wins over top 50 schools, 7 wins against the top 75:

3 Seton Hall
20 Marquette
39 Virginia Tech
49 Marshall
50 Florida
58 NC State
74 Stanford

Seton Hall is top 5 in RPI, and will be ranked this week. They absolutely deserve it. They've been really good this year so far. That might be Syracuse's best win so far, especially with Florida struggling as they have.

Completely different formulas.

RPI is a much simpler formula. I'm not exactly sure how it's calculated, though.

Sagarin's is probably much more complicated, taking into consideration opponent's records as well as things like their scoring margins, their opponents' records, etc.

I agree the Sagarin's is probably more accurate, but it doesn't matter because the RPI is the formula the Selection committee uses.

Oh yeah, I don't think Seton Hall is one of the 5 best teams in the country, one of the 25 r 30 best teams? Definitely. They won @Dayton, and have beaten UConn and WVU at home, St. Joes and VCU on a neutral site.

I am surprised Florida is so low in the RPI, and Stanford as well for that matter. They're 38th in Sagarin, 15th in Pomeroy. Stanford is 39th in Pomeroy and 39th in Sagarin.

Florida won't finish the season that low; they should be around 20ish is my guess.

The nice thing about being #1 in the RPI is that teams get a boost just from playing us, especially in the dome. So its the rich getting richer. For instance Florida and Marshall would not be in the Top 50 if we had not played them. Pretty cool side effect that will help with seeding.

I wish I could be more interested in SOS, RPI and Coaches Polls/AP polls. Unfortunately, the only things I care about are whether or not we can beat UNC, UK, Duke, OSU, MSU, Baylor and a few others...on a neutral court...in March. For me, it's a waiting game right now. At this point in the season, it is only important for me that the team continue to improve and experience on-court adversity.

So our RPI is better because the teams we played, played us. Brain Cramp.

I think this is true to a certain extent. But to me, we want a #1 seed. And the #1 overall seed would help too, allowing us not to travel and to avoid BE schools before at least the Elite 8 depending on upsets.

That's what the regular season is all about -- putting your team in the best position possible to advance in the tournament. And I think that's what makes SOS, RPI, etc. important.

Actually, this is true only if we win. We lose, the team we play doesn't get as much of a bump... and anyone else who played us previously gets bumped down. It all works itself out.
