Pat Perles

maybe he just likes canadian tire more than costco
We have both here!

Good for Perles; hopefully SU can pull a combo great coach/recruiter. Looks like OL is going to be the major need on the Recruiting front this year.

Perles did a great job with the OL this past year but what did he do regarding recruiting?

Good luck to him wherever he lands...
I agree for the most part about his coaching but the recruiting aspect was a total zippo. I'm guessing Shaffer will try to improve in both areas. Its an opportunity to greatly improve the program. All the coaches need to be effective recruiters. The next coach is going to be blessed with two outstanding incoming freshmen in Ward and Roberts. The current unit has a few projects that could use some coaching up like Palmer and the last two red-shirts.

Big loss IMO, What he made of Foy was nothing short of remarkable. Was hoping he could do some more magic with Emerich this year!

Unfortunately, on to the next. Shafer has two holes to fill. Will be interesting to see if he fills them with friends or new "hot" recruiter types.

Perles did a good job, but i'm not sure Perles can get all the credit. The prior staff probably had a lot to do with the development of these players.

Since Perles was our NJ guy, 1 of these hires, preferably, the WR hire better have some serious mid-atlantic connects. I'd rather have the 0-line coach be a solid coach, but recruiting shouldn't be overlooked.

I think there is large seperation between college and pro style coaches. Successful college guys love to or are very good at recruiting and coaching. Pro guys only have to coach at a high level. Marrone, Moore and Perles seem more like pro guys and probably didn't care that much for the recruiting part. I think Shafer, McDonald and most of the rest of the coaches are into recruiting. Those guys want to get into recruit's homes and sell to the parents.

These are both good points. I will say an OL coach can make a huge difference. How much credit DM and Adkins deserve is hard to say, but I tend to give Perles a lot of credit b/c I haven't seen those kinds of holes opened in the running game in a long time.

That's interesting. A few days ago he was in Toronto. Maybe he changed his mind when a college offer popped up.

This is what I saw out there...

Toronto Argonauts: Syracuse offensive line coach Pat Perles has resigned to accept another position, according to CuseNation.com. All 32 NFL organizations have hired their #1 offensive line guy and the only major college offensive line job that remains unfilled is at Oklahoma State. Perles does have experience in the CFL, so he could be heading back to the Canadian League with the Toronto Argonauts.

that would seem to be a money based move then, no?

Stranger things have happened. Maybe he hadn't yet signed with Toronto or he only interviewed and thought he had the job. Guess the only fact is he's not an SU coach. Who was that coach we had for about 2 days a few years ago? Coaches are a fickle bunch.

That or since he spent 5 years in the CFL, he found a college job more desirable and Toronto was a fall back.

. Who was that coach we had for about 2 days a few years ago?

Roger Harriott, now assistant HC and RB coach at FAU.

That's him. Didn't his wife see the cold and snow and say no thanks? Or was that just a rumor?

That is what I heard, I met them both at the recruiting reception and they both had that deer in the headlights look and I really think the next day he was gone. I also think the expectation of the workload may have sacred him off as well. Wheatley was a better hire, IMO anyway

Married to the former Karen Pauls of St. Catharines, Ont. Maybe his family didn't say in Kansas.

Oklahoma State: CoachingSearch.com has learned that Oregon State offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh is indeed a strong candidate to land the offensive line job at Oklahoma State. A year ago, Lane Kiffin tried to lure Cavanaugh to USC, but the veteran offensive line coach decided to remain at Oregon State. Cavanaugh has spent the last nine seasons at Oregon State.

yup obviously doesn't look like anything is done yet. It sounds like Perles was headed to Toronto and then OK St inquired and he may have interest but Ok St still searching/interviewing. Hopefully he doesn't lose out on Toronto opportunity if he ends up not getting OSU gig.

I chatted with the coaching search guy. Get the feeling he was just throwing darts at the board with the OK State call.

Perles is looking for a job.
OK state is the last vacancy
Therefore he must be going to OK St.
