Paul Finebaum was asked on the Hot Route podcast what teams could make the jump and enter the playoff conversation on a regular basis in the near future. The first team he mentioned was SU, but with one big "IF". Of course he said the only way SU makes the move from mediocrity to playoff caliber (similar to Washington when they hired Chris Petersen) is if Dino sticks around.

The follow up question was whether or not he believed Dino would stay. Finebaum chuckled as if it was a stupid question and said "no he will not, he will be gone real soon".

Here's hoping he's 50% right on predictions.

That’s because Finebaum is an SEC finger puppet and believes that all coaches would leave all but the top 5 or 6 schools for money. Not that there isn’t some historical precedents but guys like him do not dial into the happenings of the ACC with any seriousness. If you couldn’t tell, I can’t stand that guy.

True, PF thinks that the SEC, Clemson, anf OSU and Michigan are the only significant programs in the nation and that all other schools are feeder programs. PF...

Finebaum was saying Dino would be gone after last year when we beat Clemson.

Like the poster above me stated, unless you’re Clemson, OSU or any SEC school, Finebaum will view you as a stepping stone.

However, the fact people like Finebaum think Dino can have a perennial CFP challenger at Syracuse is pretty telling. (In a good way)

Obviously when a coach turns Syracuse around like Dino has, his name is gonna pop up in conversations for other jobs, that being said Paul Finebaum said he thought Barbers would be gone real soon, and if you read the Louisville forums and websites they say Dino has reached out to pursue the job... Barbers is currently 57 years old. He’s not stayed anywhere long, but would Babers see Louisville as a final destination? No one, but Dino would know that. There are some around both Babers and the UofL program that believe if offered, Dino Babers would jump in a heartbeat. In fact, he’ll push hard for the job. Babers is definitely a name to watch if Brohm doesn’t take the job... all of which is speculation of course but then it leads me to tonight a former player I know very well at Maryland said that Dino has at least been in contact with Maryland. Is that concrete of course not but he is well connected. Sooooo I am wondering is there enough smoke to make fire that Dino might not be happy here???

Kind of stupid statement. If he believes Syracuse could be an annual contender for the playoffs why would the HC leave? Assuming he's being paid fairly, isn't the ability to win championships the ultimate goal for head coaches? If he believes he can do it at Syracuse what's the point of leaving to attempt it at another school that may not have that chance?

Would be shocked if he leaves for either of those. Did you see Pass from Louisville a few nights ago? He fumbled twice w/o even being touched. If I'm Babers, I take a Pass on him being my QB and watch Devito explode for the next 3 years after 2 years of my coaching. Maryland is a dumpster fire right now and they're still not sure if their AD is going to be allowed to stick around.

Are you high? Dino is not leaving SU for Louisville. It’s not on the west coast, it is in the ACC, and they are historically not even good at football. Those are the three biggest factors in Dino leaving. Not to mention it would be a complete rebuild since there is minimal talent on that roster. USC and UCLA are the only jobs Dino will leave for. Maybe Oregon, Texas, or Texas A&M, MAYBE. People are insane

DB has never moved down in his career. He’s always taken better jobs. So history says he wouldn’t take a job that’s a notch above the Rutgers job.

Dino was a little choked up in the presser, that the biggest crowd came out for the Seniors. It's pretty clear he's motivated by more than $$. He's positioned himself to be a perennial Giant slayer. They are the stories everyone loves about sports. There's more to life than money.

I’m not high, nor am I well connected, but plenty of people who report on college for a living mention Dino for lots of openings, and now it’s not hard to find stories of people saying he maybe even reaching out to other Universities.

When a non-lateral move opens up, let me know...

I could be totally wrong, but he just doesn't seem like the guy who's going to be chasing the next biggest check and jump for the first next "best" opportunity. I think the last 2 home games were big. It showed him the fan base will support a winner and fill up the Dome. He deserves a significant raise. I have no doubt he will get that. He knows he has some serious young pieces in place to make a sustained run right now in a manageable conference. Plus Syracuse has a rich history and has shown in the past it can be very successful. I With all the moving around he's done throughout his career, I really don't know what would entice him to pack up and leave what he has going on here right now. Maybe i'm totally wrong, but he just doesn't seem to be that guy.

Yes Dino's name will be mentioned alot for every peer job out there. I do believe Dino will use them to get what he wants from Syracuse. He will not leave Syracause for a peer school especially one on the east coast. When his name starts getting talked about for upgraded situations or peer schools out west then I will get worried.

1. Dino is in his mid-50s, not his late-30s.
2. Dino has all the pieces aligning at SU with minimal pressure to perform.
3. SU has been good, not great and is in the playoff conversation.
4. Peterson stayed at Boise forever before leaving
5. Gary Patterson is still at TCU
6. How many coaches took a step and became irrelevant immediately?

Dino literally has everything he could hope or dream for at SU outside of not being on the west coast. He has free rein to run the program however he wants with minimal interference or obligations. He has a fan base that will worship him for the next century if he puts together a couple ten win seasons. Most importantly, he has the freedom to develop talented young LEADERS and MEN.

A lot of people want to write Dino off as gone in the next two years, but I just don’t see it.

I've seen the Louisville 2 4 7 writer reference that Dino has expressed interest, so I'm assuming that's who you're getting your "news" from. He's simply catering to his subscribers, and talking out of his ass in doing so. A Louisville based writer would have zero feel for what's going on in Dino Babers' head.

Sometimes you need to step back and think whether something makes sense before you post. This is one of those times you probably should have done that. Dino very well may leave at some point, but if he does, its not going to be for a lateral move (or half-step up) for UL or UMD (unless he absolutely hates it here but I dont see any indication of that being the case).
