Paul Finebaum - good and bad

It's actually kind of embarrassing that his name is being brought up for those schools with people actually thinking Dino would legitimately leave for one of those jobs. Talk about awful perception. It's really sad to see how bad our brand has been tarnished. Imagine 15 years ago. This all would have been laughable. Just shows how far there is to go earning back national respect.

Exactly. It says more about the perception of Syracuse outside of Syracuse than anything else.

Obviously when a coach turns Syracuse around like Dino has, his name is gonna pop up in conversations for other jobs, that being said Paul Finebaum said he thought Barbers would be gone real soon, and if you read the Louisville forums and websites they say Dino has reached out to pursue the job... Barbers is currently 57 years old. He’s not stayed anywhere long, but would Babers see Louisville as a final destination? No one, but Dino would know that. There are some around both Babers and the UofL program that believe if offered, Dino Babers would jump in a heartbeat. In fact, he’ll push hard for the job. Babers is definitely a name to watch if Brohm doesn’t take the job... all of which is speculation of course but then it leads me to tonight a former player I know very well at Maryland said that Dino has at least been in contact with Maryland. Is that concrete of course not but he is well connected. Sooooo I am wondering is there enough smoke to make fire that Dino might not be happy here???
Nonsense. Everybody knows Brohm is Louisville's next coach. And, there is no reason to go to Louisville, for anyone, at any time.

Do I believe MD has tried to contact Babers? Sure, them and a zillion other teams. Nothing new there.

How you got to your last conclusion? That's called trolling.

The Cal debacle was the nail in the coffin most of us SC peeps feel. His bizarre comment when asked about Toa Lohbendahn certainly didn’t go over well either. Toa continued to have bad snaps the other day and sailed one into the end zone causing a safety. When asked (yet again) about making a change at C, Helton said no and that “Toa is one of the loves of my life.” Can’t make this stuff up!

I do agree that, assuming Swann isn’t fired also, Babers’ style offense isn’t the ideal one for guys like Swann. I mean, I’d love it for sure. But I don’t know what other USC guy you could bring in. Del Rio? Fisher? Nah. Things are mess right now with lawsuits and an interim Pres.
My cousin is an SC before the wildfires forced him out of Woodland Hills we talked last night.
He thought a bowl would save Helton for this year but his coaching staff would be changed and served up.
He would need 10-2 next year or good bye. The 5 year extension Swann gave him he thought saves him for one more year.

Art Briles was a POS human being as Baylor coach but he didn’t bail on what he created.
Why do people say Dino is part of the Baylor tree and ignore that Briles stayed.
Of course Dino left directional Illinois and Bowling Green. If he thinks he can win at Syracuse why would he leave for a peer school. South Carolina was the team Finebaum said could have had Babers. He isn’t going to leave unless the school is a clear upgrade.
None of those mid to lower SEC/Big Ten jobs are going to get Dino.
It has to be a top 15 job. Think Clemson/Florida State/Alabama/LSU/Florida/Georgia/UCLA/USC/Oregon/Oklahoma/Texas/Texas A&M/Nebraska/Michigan/Ohio State level job.
Not Maryland/Louisville/Kansas/Kansas State/Texas Tech level.

Out of sight out of mind. We have been irrelevant far too long. It’s why Herbie’s passive aggressive crap is annoying.
Colorado has been down the past decade and they weren’t crapped on like we have been when they had their season 2 years ago.

Agreed. “Why not Syracuse”

He left Bowling Green because you 1000% were not winning a national championship there. As this season shows, it’s in the realm here. As crazy as it sounds - it’s more possible today than it has been since the McNabb era.

If we held on against Clemson we are in the playoffs with the Pitt loss and beating ND and BC and rematch with Pitt.
Dino could win a NC here if he beats Clemson and gets thru a season with one loss.
Don’t give the ACC is inferior to the other leagues either. All the leagues are overrated. Alabama and the 13 schools.
As ACC has been dominating the FSU-UF, Clemson-USCe UK-UL rivalries but it’s ignored by the national media. I

It wouldn't shock me if his new agent was looking to both create a buzz and get paid, but until Babers is connected to a place that isn't a complete barn-fire, I'm not going to get too worked up about it.

I would bet Dino and his agent are doing what all smart business people do, creating leverage. If it results in a better gig you take it but usually you just strong arm your current employer into paying you/staff more, more bells/whistles, etc.

i see him gone if the money is not there. poster is right he is is in his 50's and financial security is paramount, particularly in the field of coaching. money talks very loud. i would hate to lose dino and would like us to step up financially to keep him.

It's not just 50's. He'll be 58 next summer. Let's say best case scenario is another 3 year rebuild. He'll be 60 going on 61 at that point. In terms of financial stability, the guy will have made 15+ million dollars when his contract at Syracuse is up. But if he signed an extension that would bring him to well over $30 million by 65 - and then add in the fact that this is the least stressful championship level coaching job in the nation. I'd say that's pretty financially secure.

Truly Dino is the type the money will be about his staff and getting them big fat raises.

The first wave of punishment already happened. He was forced to fire his best friend last week, OL coach Neal Callaway. Tee Martin was demoted also. They aren’t going to beat UCLA or ND. No bowl. Can’t survive that. The Pac12 S is af an all time low in terms of quality. He lost to Herm Edwards. He’ll lose to Chip Kelly next week. He lost to the guy he fired, Justin Wilcox. ND will be a 3 game losing streak at the Coliseum. Guys like Ryan Abraham and Dan Weber think he’s done now. He fell on his sword with this Cal game. He was the official playcaller since Tee Martin was ‘demoted’ and they scored 14 points. Nothing in the 2H. It’s just hard to say what the school heirarchy and big money is thinking. But, Helton’s out. Bet my savings on that but Swanny may be out too.

I ask because I don’t know (and assume no one here does too): does his wife like CNY? stuff like that can change the calculus too.

Everyone laid out the logical reasons for staying but HC are illogical people. I’d want 3
Years of Devito and my system in place but he is getting old and if he goes somewhere I suspect next year or not. This year would be crazy but crazy does halpen

He has said they do love it. He's made specific references to being able to get anywhere around the city in 5-10 minutes. He's made many other mentions of the surrounding areas and the people.

I think Dino will chase money for his assistants before he chases it for himself. That's the one worry I'd have. The 2nd is that Dino seems to be more driven by challenges than money. Coaches have giant egos, and they think they can win anywhere. I could see Dino going to a nice SEC locale and trying to knock Saban off his perch. As a coach who wouldn't want to do that.

The first thing you do is throw out rumors from anyone who doesn't spell his name right.

Andrea Adelson was just on Sirius XM. She said Dino is second on UL's list after Brohm. She also said Brohm should take the job because "If Dino Babers can win at Syracuse, Brohm can easily win at Louisville."

if he leaves then its to USC or a comparable program. If USC wants him, there's nothing cuse can do about it.

Peterson, Patterson and you forgot Babers mentor Briles. Briles stayed with Baylor for years, once he got rolling.
I think you are spot on.

On the football field, Art Briles/Baylor is the beacon. Dino saw it all up close.
With Dino now three years in, SU is essentially the new Baylor.

Briles could have left Baylor no less than 10 times for 10 different schools before it all crumbled (his own doing). He chose to stay.

Conceivably, with proper monetary infusion, Dino can complete the Baylor Offense-births-unforeseen-juggernaut experiment by remaining at SU.

He's ahead of schedule ...

Anyone Notice ...

Andrea. C'mon. Ask yourself why it would be easier to win at Louisville than at Syracuse. *Maybe* recruits see it as more southern. That's it. That's the list. Similar resources, same division.

Dino was a little choked up in the presser, that the biggest crowd came out for the Seniors. It's pretty clear he's motivated by more than $$. He's positioned himself to be a perennial Giant slayer. They are the stories everyone loves about sports. There's more to life than money.

I have a couple points. They may be naive but they give me hope.

1. he will be 58 before next season starts

2. syracuse has incredible talent next year. First year in 20+ years that we look at "next year" as the year. The usual is we see a bad team that has a few decent freshmen and we say in 2-3 years. But they were only playing because it was a bad team - Think Max Suter.

3. The dome - his offense

4. He specifically said he was offered more money 3 years ago. He chose Syracuse. I just dont feel the need to say that, if you jump ship at the 1st opportune time. Again, maybe im naive.

5. and most importantly. His coaching mentor Art Briles. Went to Baylor. Stayed at baylor (until he was fired) and was never going to leave Baylor. This is a gimmicky offense - not many blue bloods run this offense and I dont think they want/need to start. I feel this offense gives a team and a community an identity that isnt needed at USC, UGA, Clemson, Alabama, etc. It also requires 2-3 years of talent meant for the offense - not just talent (see example 1 loud and proud FSU who may have made a huge mistake going the gimmicky offense)

Just my 2 cents. I'm not predicting anything with Dino's future. I hope he stays. I hope he has a statue next to Ernie in 10 years (I have said that since a few days before we hired him. He was/is/always will be the man for THIS job. I have always though he being the man for the job was a 2 way street cuse defining Dino's legacy, Dino turning Cuse around. I just hope he feels that way too. My opinion has never wavered. He gives us an identity - he is bringing the fans back - he is building this program - he will win games we have no business winning - he will lose games we shouldnt - but there is no question in my mind he gets us a few incredible seasons and it looks like this could be 1 of those seasons)

I hate calling people ignorant but she is just an awful ignorant reporter.
The fact is she has covered our program since GRob all she knows she is Syracuse sucks.
It is so dumb how these media hacks thing because we have been down for 15 years we are dregs.
