Paul Finebaum - good and bad

I’m not high, nor am I well connected, but plenty of people who report on college for a living mention Dino for lots of openings, and now it’s not hard to find stories of people saying he maybe even reaching out to other Universities.
Coaches of Dino Baber’s caliber and personality do not reach out to universities about job openings. That’s rule number one of the coaches carousel.

I've seen the Louisville 2 4 7 writer reference that Dino has expressed interest, so I'm assuming that's who you're getting your "news" from. He's simply catering to his subscribers, and talking out of his ass in doing so. A Louisville based writer would have zero feel for what's going on in Dino Babers' head.

Sometimes you need to step back and think whether something makes sense before you post. This is one of those times you probably should have done that. Dino very well may leave at some point, but if he does, its not going to be for a lateral move (or half-step up) for UL or UMD (unless he absolutely hates it here but I dont see any indication of that being the case).

Not to mention the comment i think he is referencing was under the writers "gut feeling" that Dino would push hard for the Louisville job if Brohm didn't accept. He better take some tums because his gut feeling must have been his dinner coming up.

I could be totally wrong, but he just doesn't seem like the guy who's going to be chasing the next biggest check and jump for the first next "best" opportunity. I think the last 2 home games were big. It showed him the fan base will support a winner and fill up the Dome. He deserves a significant raise. I have no doubt he will get that. He knows he has some serious young pieces in place to make a sustained run right now in a manageable conference. Plus Syracuse has a rich history and has shown in the past it can be very successful. I With all the moving around he's done throughout his career, I really don't know what would entice him to pack up and leave what he has going on here right now. Maybe i'm totally wrong, but he just doesn't seem to be that guy.
I posted about a year ago, that the staffs goal was to win a national championship, at 'Cuse. Y'all laughed, which is understandable. That goal hasn't changed.

The only potential opening that would interest Dino is USC but no way is SC going to go after him. They like guys with ties to the school and I highly doubt they go after someone who runs a “gimmick” offense. Pro style tailback U kind of program historically and I doubt 65 year old USC alum Lynn Swann will stray too far from that

Louisville and Maryland are both peers currently surrounded by scandal and worse football teams... why exactly is our coach jumping to either of those situations?

He’s not. And he’s certainly not reaching out either.

I can’t wait for Saturday. This season has the opportunity to be one of the most special in our program’s history.

It's actually kind of embarrassing that his name is being brought up for those schools with people actually thinking Dino would legitimately leave for one of those jobs. Talk about awful perception. It's really sad to see how bad our brand has been tarnished. Imagine 15 years ago. This all would have been laughable. Just shows how far there is to go earning back national respect.

Dino's next show isn't until next week but, tentatively, I'm planning to ask this:

“Coach, in your first show this season, I asked if we now have the talent, depth and experience to compete at a high level for a full 12 game season and win some games in November. You said at the time that you were about a year and a half from where you want to be. Well, now you have won in November and are looking forward to a good bowl game, so that destination seems to have been reached. Where do you expect to be a year from now?”

The double-meaning in the final sentence is intentional. ;)

The Cal debacle was the nail in the coffin most of us SC peeps feel. His bizarre comment when asked about Toa Lohbendahn certainly didn’t go over well either. Toa continued to have bad snaps the other day and sailed one into the end zone causing a safety. When asked (yet again) about making a change at C, Helton said no and that “Toa is one of the loves of my life.” Can’t make this stuff up!

I do agree that, assuming Swann isn’t fired also, Babers’ style offense isn’t the ideal one for guys like Swann. I mean, I’d love it for sure. But I don’t know what other USC guy you could bring in. Del Rio? Fisher? Nah. Things are mess right now with lawsuits and an interim Pres.

Obviously when a coach turns Syracuse around like Dino has, his name is gonna pop up in conversations for other jobs, that being said Paul Finebaum said he thought Barbers would be gone real soon, and if you read the Louisville forums and websites they say Dino has reached out to pursue the job... Barbers is currently 57 years old. He’s not stayed anywhere long, but would Babers see Louisville as a final destination? No one, but Dino would know that. There are some around both Babers and the UofL program that believe if offered, Dino Babers would jump in a heartbeat. In fact, he’ll push hard for the job. Babers is definitely a name to watch if Brohm doesn’t take the job... all of which is speculation of course but then it leads me to tonight a former player I know very well at Maryland said that Dino has at least been in contact with Maryland. Is that concrete of course not but he is well connected. Sooooo I am wondering is there enough smoke to make fire that Dino might not be happy here???
Puhleeze.
Trolling troll, is trolling!
If Babers leaves for a USC, the SU fanbase can at least swallow that.
But Louisville? Moto' Petrino, Slick Rick, Papa John bigot, Louisville?
Yeah...riiiiight.

USC: likely going to be an NFL guy. Are there any USC alums capable of taking on the job? I’m not seeing any natural candidates there.

UCLA: Kelly has a few more years to turn it around, but it’s possible. They like the gimmick offenses, but Dino will probably have SU a consistent winner by then, why leave for UCLA?

Oregon: Cristobal is going to be there awhile.

Arizona: why? Nostalgia?

Auburn: I have seen Dino’s name come up a few times with Auburn alums and boosters. It’s an interesting wrinkle and they definitely don’t shy away from Dino’s style of play. I just don’t see the appeal when he has never coached or recruited SEC football. That’s a tall order while being Bama’s little brother.

Texas: Herman is early in his term and likely not leaving if he has success. If he doesn’t have success then I don’t see Dino’s style getting a look.

Texas A&M: Jimbo just got there.

What other jobs are going to come open soon? I would say Dino is probably safe for another two years at least unless USC whiffs on their first eight choices. I don’t see Dino going anywhere for at least four years, if ever. Maybe I’m wrong, but people need to definitely calm down and start acting the part of being a fan of a winning program

I ask because I don’t know (and assume no one here does too): does his wife like CNY? stuff like that can change the calculus too.

Everyone laid out the logical reasons for staying but HC are illogical people. I’d want 3
Years of Devito and my system in place but he is getting old and if he goes somewhere I suspect next year or not. This year would be crazy but crazy does halpen

1. Dino is in his mid-50s, not his late-30s.
2. Dino has all the pieces aligning at SU with minimal pressure to perform.
3. SU has been good, not great and is in the playoff conversation.
4. Peterson stayed at Boise forever before leaving
5. Gary Patterson is still at TCU
6. How many coaches took a step and became irrelevant immediately?

Dino literally has everything he could hope or dream for at SU outside of not being on the west coast. He has free rein to run the program however he wants with minimal interference or obligations. He has a fan base that will worship him for the next century if he puts together a couple ten win seasons. Most importantly, he has the freedom to develop talented young LEADERS and MEN.

A lot of people want to write Dino off as gone in the next two years, but I just don’t see it.
i see him gone if the money is not there. poster is right he is is in his 50's and financial security is paramount, particularly in the field of coaching. money talks very loud. i would hate to lose dino and would like us to step up financially to keep him.

Amazing how people keep mentioning his age being a factor.

I would bet that he is already financially secure, seems that he has been here 3 years at 2.5 mil a year, which by my crazy math is about 7.5 million total not including incentives. Unless he is out buying yachts we don't know about I am guessing he is doing fine financially.

There are currently 17 coaches above the age of 60 in the FBS which is right around 15%. None of those guys appear to be looking to throw in the towel any rime soon, except Snyder maybe and he is almost 80. Age is not a consideration, especially since Dino looks like he is about 40 and is in great shape. This isn't the Olympics where your physical gifts can take you out of the game as you get old.

Dino can leave after his National Championship at SU if he so desires, but until then, we are all in this together. Let the pundits speak their words so they can get paid meanwhile SU football will just keep humming along with wins and movie quotes.

Sorry, but I do not believe for a moment that Babers has reached out to either Maryland or Louisville.

Those people are making guesses in hopes that if it actually happens they can say "See, I was right, told ya".

Peterson, Patterson and you forgot Babers mentor Briles. Briles stayed with Baylor for years, once he got rolling.
