PAY THAT MAN HIS MONEY!!!!

Did Fran not say he was only gonna coach until his daughter was 16 or something like that so he could spend more time with her during her really formative years which was only like 7 more years at the time he got hired.

Jeez people, he’s a straight shooter, believe his word until something happens to the contrary.

The dude came from dirt floor poor, he’s making the money he wants/needs to live the good life and be where he wants to be well into the future.
Didn't Doug Marrone say Syracuse was his dream job, but left four years later?

It's a business.

Didn't realize Sexton was Fran's agent. He is big ticket. You don't reel in a guy like that if you're not looking to optimize value. Interesting.
Fran might not be interested in SEC schools but Sexton will one hundred percent frame their salary as leverage. Fran is a family man but you don't hire a Sexton to NOT get paid.
As a refresher how (in estimated $) is Syracuse football doing on Nil today and how much more is required to get to a tier Fran wants? Nil keeps getting thrown around as something the business and fans need to do (I get it) but what is the number needed versus what is currently being hit? If the fans and businesses are being asked to step up more, give us a number.

Fran said last summer that he needs around $6-8 million more than what the University now provides, which is around $14-15 million. He needs at least $20 million to be very competitive. They should be able to reach those numbers. Area businesses are the key. Micron and the spinoff companies are going to bring in a lot of opportunities. They should also bring in more people, which may mean tickets might be hard to come by.

Thanks for the information. So the $15 million you say the university provides is part of the changes that took effect in July 2025 by schools? So the "whales", local businesses and fans need to come up with the $6-$8 million of which that is already being partially covered? Just trying to clarify the "ask" because if Fran stays it will at least be predicated on "committed " Nil from those who can commit as part of the negotiation process.

All Fran has to do is have to check on the media coming after Dabo's head after losing to 3 quality P4 programs. The guy built the program into a powerhouse, just went to the playoffs last year, and now he's a apparently on the hot seat. Not sure if the fan base is quite there yet, but it's still crazy.

Meanwhile in Syracuse, fans are asking for 6-8 wins ...

The reality of all this needs to factor in his agent, Jimmy Sexton.

Sexton is legendary for getting his clients nice extensions at the potential threat of a client going elsewhere. Florida State does well in 2023, boom, Norvell gets 8 years/$84 million.

He’s also the agent to most of the SEC I believe.

I would think he would be licking his chops to get his client into Florida (and face his mentor Kirby Smart annually.)

All this to say: John Wildhack, of all people, knows how this game is played and Sexton is undoubtedly already playing it. But would an outgoing Chancellor give the authority to sign off on a large extension? That would what I am curious about…
Fran is not going to go to a new program just because his agent wants him to or his agent wants more money. Fran will do what he thinks is best for himself and only leave if he thinks Syracuse is no longer the best fit for him.

This is just my opinion, but I hope I’m right.

Fran was not a 50 year old nationally acclaimed offensive or defensive coordinator who was the kind of person who was on everyone’s radar to become a head coach. He was a position coach with no coordinator experience. Wildhack believed in him and gave him a chance, probably a few or several years before any other power 4 would do that. So his income is already far above what otherwise would have been.

Fran appears to be to be the kind of guy that would like to finish what he started.

Fran has stated he’d like to be in the north east. Seems to take disrespect of Northeast football and “toughness” personally.

Fran has stated that in 10 years he’d like to be spending time with his family/daughter. While that may change, That does not sound like someone who is going to chase jobs all over the country.

To me, he just seems like a different kind of guy than most of your head coaches that would chase a bag or prestigious job over everything else.

I could be totally wrong, but I feel pretty good about Fran and him staying if he gets most of what he wants/needs. I always felt that if Dino had another good year following our 10 win year, he would’ve been gone to a bigger program and not thought twice about it.

Wait, we bring our own police on the road? What an incredible assignment for a local cop.

Edit: Just zoomed in and looked him up. Syracuse community engagement commander Jeremy Welling from Syracuse Public Safety. Kudos to Jeremy. He looked so happy. What a great gig.

He is a straight shooter but someone throwing a huge bag at him could always change things. We wouldn't be human if we couldn't admit that.

Yup. We will pay him what we need to in order to keep him.

But the additional NIL is key. We need businesses to step up. Only so much individual donors can do.
Our ability to continue to find financing year after year is going to determine the fate of a lot of things regarding SU sports.

He absolutely did. Which I posted earlier.

As I understand it, Sexton signed him when he was an assistant coach: the only non-HC in his stable. It’s not a new relationship because Fran wants to squeeze SU.

I completely agree with you, but also think that to be a P4 headcoach, you inherently don't think like that

In fairness, it was his dream job. Until he realized how crappy of an actual job it was getting the program funded like a real D1 school. Then it wasn’t a dream job anymore and he left.

It’s not complicated.

When I talk to fans of other teams in my office (tons of GA-Tech, UGA, and a few NC St & Clemson fans), they all insist that Fran is gone in a year or two to a blue-blood. I don't think so. Maybe 5-6 years down the road but not soon. He is loyal & I think he won't even consider leaving until he gets Syracuse to a certain level (i.e. playoff). Maybe he will stay here long term, who knows. But the bags of cash will definitely be waived in front of him very soon if he keeps on this trajectory. I am just going to enjoy the ride while we have him.
The coach I am most worried about leaving is Nixon. He will be a NFL OC or a College head coach soon.

We need to accept the fact that Nixon will move on next year and it was always apart of the plan.

If Nixon is gone next year it will be a good thing.

It would be developing Coach Frans coaching tree.

This allows him to bring in better candidates.

That’s the name of the game for assistant positions.

Something that fans at Syracuse haven’t been used to in a long long time

Gone AFTER next year.
