Since their scandel broke in November.

14 rostered players
6 previous 2012 commits
5 2013 verbal commits

Bees are they dropping down to 1-AA?

Many aren't because they don't have to sit a year.

Don't you need to adjust that by one for the "under the radar" LBer from Arizona they offered and he accepted a couple weeks ago. he was considered a 2012 commit :)

Make it 26. Another kid quit the team today but will stay in school to finish his senior year.

That's allowed? I'll be surprised if he isn't spit at every day walking around campus.

was he talking about the players or the football team in general?

Instead of the death penalty, it is death by a thousand cuts.

I should have been more clear. Is Penn St dropping down to 1-aa. 85 minus 26 equals 59. The 1-aa scholly limit is 62. That program has been gutted.

It's not exactly 85 -26, there have been some puts and takes. Interested to know what they're actual # of scholarship players is right now and how many they graduate after this year vs. how many recruits they are allowed in the 2013 class. That's a double edged sword, not only will they potentially not be allowed to replace all those players, the quality of the replacements is going to be suspect as well.

I just remember reading posts from a couple people on here saying Penn St will rebound from this quickly and be fine in a few years...ha ha ha.

Good luck with that. When it comes to football Penn St will be to the Big 10 what Duke is to the ACC .

Duke has no football history, Penn St does. If the penalty remains the same 8 years from now they'll be top 25.

Top 25 what? Not in football! They are screwed for a very long time!

Don't underestimate the state pride that PSU invokes. As soon as the penalties are over they'll rise again.
I agree...they'll be back waaaaaaaaaay much sooner than a private school like SMU. I think they'll be back in the Top 25 around 2019-20. I can see them however losing 20% of their season ticket base as the penalties wear on...I think crowds will drop by 30-35% as most continue to buy season tickets but don't make all the games. We have people driving in from Harrisburg, NEPA, Philly, NJ, Pittsburgh (as well as locally) to see them play. Some will start to bail once reality sets in but most will stay and ride it out (this is a state pride and cultrue thing to PSU fans). It might not be as much fun to spend 1000's of dollars and lost weekends to see your team go 3-9 to 5-7. I expect to see crowds in the 75-80k range by 2014. LOL don't we wish we had a crappy crowd like that.

I was just doing the numbers and unless they get alot of walk on's I think the toughest year for this team will be the year after the sanctions end. Even though they will have a full class of 25 I think alot of the kids will be stuck not redshirting in that class which will probably push out the timeline on how quick Ped can turn that ship around. I think they won't see the top 25 until 2020 at the earliest unless they get some great production out of younger players.

I'm betting they go 6-6 this season, do no worse than 4-8 over the 3-4 years after that, and start producing .500 or better records again starting by 2017-18. As with the whole Sandusky affair, it's a football culture thing with PSU. Their fans and in-state recruits will bring things back faster than would happen in other states/settings.

There is another area that I see on a daily basis checking out articles, Penn State is losing every battle for recruits who had them in their top 3, 5 or 7. Like someone else said, "Death by a 1000 cuts."

I think once they get the scholarships back and can return to bowls, they will recover.

There is a lot of Penn State pride in Pa. If they can keep Pa kids home, they will have a great foundation to build on. I think the next two or three recruiting classes will suffer, but after that they will improve. In Pennsylvania, Penn State football is huge and unlike in New York, most kids grow up wanting to play at Penn State. It is a culture and it will not go away.

I dont even see it getting that bad. My guess is they will average 95k + per game. They still will have decent recruiting classes, likely with less top end talent and less overall depth, but enough to get by. They will still out-recruit more than half the Big Ten. Those people are .

Four years is a long time to be behind the eight ball. Others will have made recruiting inroads during that time and Ped State's lock in their areas will never be the same. By then Temple could be stiff competition as well as the obvious (Pitt).

I think they will suffer in attendance perhaps dropping to 85k per game. Once the spell is broken it is hard to spin the magic again. Lastly, recruiting is not everything witness ND, Pitt, etc. This new coaching staff could easily prove to be a bust.

They will never be the same.

Precisely...and that's what has to change. Culture or Cult??? One in the same based on their reactions.

Even in their 4 yr. penalty window they'll get some in state kids with other D-1 offers that have dreamed of playing for PSU their whole life.
