The story attached below is a clear sign that the NCAA failed with Penn State. The penalties that were prematurely lifted not only didn't cut deeply enough, but also reified the rampant notion amidst this culture that they and JoePa were somehow wronged in all of this. The NCAA completely FAILED to affect the culture that tolerated / covered up child rape for more than a decade in order to preserve and protect their football:

Loathsome.

You know, the logical thing for the NCAA to do here would be to levy a more severe punishment.

Wow. That story reads like something from The Onion.

Penn State (and the NCAA) can thank the NFL for this not getting more attention. America has moved onto its new shiny tragedy.
it was no accident the NCAA raced to announce their reversal right after the ray rice stuff came out

if players like Kelly and Cabinda are comfortable showering where Sandusky molested kids after practice everyday, then it's out of our control.

Penn St. on the national level with people who have morals will never forget this disgusting time in the history of sports and Mitchell's legacy of giving the thumbs up to Penn St. after Hiring Franklin and his current active scandal along with the new President from Florida should also be marked down as a huge failure.

Given Franklin's history at Vanderbilt in terms in meddling with the victim of a rape by his players, it's really just a matter of time before that POS gets in trouble.

It is mind boggling the way those idiots revere a POS like Paterno.

Hiring Franklin is a exhibit A that nothing has changed with that program. You're coming off one of the most disgusting sports scandals in history and the guy you hire while you're on sanctions is a guy who was actively trying to cover up a rape case at Vandy. The whole thing is a joke.

Starting at about 1:45 this captures my reaction. The emotion, anyway, not the literal prescription.

But watch the whole clip, it's a fantastic movie.

I'm not sure if you meant this or not, but the president came from FSU, not UF. That's important because he was involved in the rape scandal down there. You would think those two people would be the last two people PSU hires, but then again, nobody ever accused PSU of being well-managed.

The NCAA should have given PSU a 4 year death penalty...at the MINIMUM.

At 4 years you might as well shut the program down permanently. I don't think that's the answer, but there should have been at least a 1-2 year period where the program took a hiatus.

Clearly the "punishment" that did happen produced no results.

The saddest thing for me is how so few PSU fans are even just "upset" about how something like this could happen in comparison to the number who broke out the pitchforks and torches over the penalties.

There are plenty of people in Happy Valley who remain devastated, sickened and appalled by the crimes committed and covered up. We could ask where are their voices, but they know they would lose the shouting contest, so why even try.

Evil wins is when good does nothing.

It makes something like $100,000,000/yr. I don't think that it would have killed it. Such a penalty might have turned it into Purdue/Indiana, but is that a bad thing? To the best of my knowledge, neither of those schools have a football program that is so far out of control that it is literally a danger to the community.

The fact of the matter is that the PSU student body needs to find an identity outside of football. Removing football from the discussion of an entire generation of students is the only way to do that.
