Penn State Series in 2027/2028

This got me wondering, what is the last power 5 non-conference game we have won?

Was it the bowl game against WVU? Purdue and ND at home this year.

Not including Bowl games we are 1-14 in our last 15 OOC P5 games. Going back further we are 5-31 in our last 36. Oddly we are 4-1 in Bowl games vs P5 teams during that same span.

By HC:

Babers 0 Ws in 5 seasons (not counting 2020)
Shafer 0 Ws in 3 seasons
Marrone 3 Ws in 4 seasons
GRob 2 Ws in 4 seasons
Coach P 0 Ws in 1 season

Ws: at Missouri, Wake (OT), Northwestern, at Notre Dame, at Illinois

Ls: Rutgers, at Maryland, Notre Dame (YS), at LSU, Notre Dame (ML), LSU, Maryland, Notre Dame (ML), Penn State (ML), at Northwestern, Northwestern, USC (ML), at Minnesota, at USC, at Washington, BC, Minnesota, at Penn State, at Northwestern, Penn State, Washington, at Iowa, Illinois, at Wake, Iowa, UVA, at FSU, at Notre Dame, at Purdue, at UVA, FSU

I'm all about not overscheduling but one game won't kill us. Just need to compete in our conference games better. At the point of these games, if Dino is still here, it probably means he has things going in a better direction and we should be able to compete. If he's not here and we're rebuilding again, we all could probably use the entertainment of a big game.

Great research. Makes me wonder if we should look at past results in our scheduling strategy.

Fantastic, what a team to root against. Regional and highly dislikeable. Excellent.
Both schools need drivable road games. This one is for the grandpas and grandmas.

Not a coincidence we play in State College in 2027, when we play Clemson at home.

Penn State fans will be amazed by the comfortable and (relatively) roomy individual seats in the dome. And the technology. I wonder if we will still have to park in a literal cow field, next to cow poop and barbed wire, when we play there in 2027? My guess is yes.

Glad we didn't do this in years we are already playing Notre Dame.

We should play them. It is good for Eastern football. Glad it is happening.
Best memories and the best rival during my life has to be Pstate. Thrilled we have them on the schedule

I know its many years away but its back to overscheduling.

I don't know how this helps Syracuse in any way. Unless the pay day is too big to pass up.
Agree. And looking forward, we should stop playing all the semi-pro teams.

We might be able to move that @UConn game

I think that's possible, maybe move that to 2028 and find another close team to replace them. Doesn't make much sense to have two drivable OOC games in the same season

We have to schedule a Power 5, and we just lost to Rutgers. So at this point, I've stopped caring about overscheduling. Win 3 ACC games, and you can go to a bowl.

As someone who used to hate how SU scheduled, this is where I'm at as well. Just schedule 1 and 1s with PSU, Rutgirls, Maryland, Army, WVU, with the occasional special games like Tennessee in areas SU doesn't play in that much.

We have to play someone. I'll be honest, it doesn't really mean any more to me than any other big name team. The annual series ended when I was at SU. It meant a lot to me then, but that was a long time ago. Since the late 70s, SU didn't mean anything to PSU fans.

I just passed this news along to my wife. Her immediate response above.

This from the girl 30 years ago who said she would never wear orange. We have come a long, long way. She might even volunteer to buy the paint.

Yeah, as long as you don’t schedule 2 in the same season and try hard to avoid the ND years, it’s fine.

Being a team that can consistently win 4 ACC games is way more important. And a team that can do that can steal one of these harder P5 games.

I don’t think they’re related either. Winning 4 cupcake OOC games, going 2-6 in the ACC and playing a G5 in the Gasparilla Bowl isn’t going to scream winning program to recruits.

If an SU game in a packed Dome against a team you hate doesn't get you fired up and excited, what's the point of even liking sports?

I guess some people would rather sit in a half-full Dome watching SU play Central Eastern Wyoming so that they have a better chance of going 6-6 and playing in the Chico's Bail Bonds Bowl.
