Starling and Anthony are taking 31 shots per 40 this year. 29 per 40 in conference

I have checked out but seriously does anyone there have a computer

Anthony taking 54 shots shooting 35% in conference is crazy

These guys are 13/49 from three in conference

We have shooters

Kiyan has the 2nd highest usage on the team and his eFG% is 39.8% in conference play which is absolutely putrid. Kingz is at 65.2% eFG with below average usage.

George has been bad too (41%). We just have a lot of inefficient offensive players. With the exception of Donnie, our 3 most inefficient players have our 3 highest usage rates. Meanwhile our 3 most efficient scorers we never use (Kingz, Betsey, Kyle)

Hopefully our next coach will make a HUGE difference in all aspects of the game.

i think in terms of narrative the play of the game was donnie madly waiving his hands wide open underneath and kiyan dribble driving to his left ignoring him and then driving and missing and taking fts.

Another one I like was in the first half, we ran zero action to get Donnie the ball in the post, he was getting it way out at the three-point line or at the top of the key. Kiyan checked in, and the first play after he checked in was an action to get Kiyan a post ISO. Like what are we even doing?

It’s insanity and THE sign that we’re terribly coached.

In our 10 ACC games Freeman has 129 FGA and Starling has 118. Starling has taken 50% more shots in conference play than Kingz (79 FGA).

Meanwhile Anthony has taken 54 shots but that’s the third highest attempts-per-minute on the team (0.34). More than Kingz (0.26) and Betsey (0.22).

Hell, Sadiq White takes more shots per minute than Kingz! (0.27 vs 0.26).

I’d argue that the #1 job of a coach is to make sure his best shooters are taking the most shots. Red is an abject friggin’ failure at that.

I went on a rant about this last week. Now do how they shoot and how the team was shooting in general in the 2nd half of our 4 game losing streak. It was preposterous.

Terrible from 2, terrible from 3, terrible from the FT line.

Also, Freeman, Betsey and Kingz are 54 for 123 from three in ACC play. An excellent 44%.

Starling, Anthony and George are 24 for 84. A pathetic 29%

Yet the latter three have taken 41% of our threes. That means 2 out of every 5 times we hoist a three pointer it’s being take by someone who sucks at shooting three pointers. Those guys should be drive and kick, and ONLY drive and kick.

Yet all of them have the perpetual green light from Red.

Go watch the replay (NOT of the whole game! Haha) of that play and 2 teammates went to pick Kiyan up almost immediately. Donnie then came strutting in late to join the “mini” huddle and you should see his face! He’s shall we say less than thrilled…..

We just have a lot of inefficient offensive players.

This is from CBBanalytics.com. I can't get too much more granular with the free package or compare to ACC teams, etc.
These are the percentages of FGAs from 3 and at the rim. The second column is their percentile rank in D1 (IIRC). So 86% of Kingz's FGAs are at the rim or from 3 and that puts him in the 85th percentile of NCAA D1 players, meaning he takes more of his shots at the rim or from three than 85% of D1 players. The third column is their eFG% at those shots at the rim and from three combined. Most are really good excepting Kiyan and Nait. A team wants Kyle and Kingz taking those shots. Kiyan and Nait should be taking way fewer shots overall. And you can see that Kingz has an eFG% of 60% on those shots, good for the top 25% in the country. That's great!

People can see the rest: Overall, JJ, Kiyan, Donnie, Nait and Sadiq love them some mid range Js - the least efficient shot in basketball. They take more shots from there than 80-90% of the D1 players. Freeman takes too many midrange jumpers, but he's relatively good at them (39%), but still less good than making shots at the rim (81% and 93rd percentile) or paint (46.6% and 60th percentile).

Watching all these games it is easy to see the issues this team has on offense (many of them outlined in the posts above). Even if someone made the argument that a lot of the complaints are simply a matter of opinion, the analytical data some posters have provided would refute that argument.

Wasn't one of the assistant coaches or some other personnel brought in primarily because of their experience/expertise with analytics? If so, what in the world is that person doing? Shouldn't he be relaying those numbers to the other staff? Then again maybe he is and Red just doesn't know what to do with them or doesn't know how to use them for the teams benefit.

I’m still in awe that Kiyan spends the whole game just jogging. I’ve never seen him sprint and we’re 20 games in. Maybe Chris Bunch is his idol. I have no idea at this point.
