Pete Thamel

The way he sarcastically said “mighty Orange” on tv last night made me throw up in my mouth a little. And I missed the game where UNC hung 50 on us you clown

the fact that he said our secondary is porous speaks volumes.

Love Adam Schein. He should've put Thamel on the spot when he said UNC put up 50 on them and replied, "when was that my friend."

I would like to read 18 more pages of the two suburban Boston sports fans arguing. It's like Syracusefan.com's own version of Sons of Sam Horn.

On a different note, richmondcuse had some excellent actual takes earlier in this thread.

Right like Will McDonough with Sean McDonough, our beloved alum, who rammed his car into Florian Hall wasted and in a compromised position. Amazing how that went away quietly or how no one ever questioned that.

Dan influenced Epstein leaving and he did call out Addazio (and Belichick) on Aaron. It's his job to do so. Just like Will McDonough called out John Harrington and Roger Clemens. It's all part of being a columnist. I get the son angle. He called in a favor. You think that's the first time that happend. Talk to Foxboro PD about Jonathan Kraft one time. He enjoyed his glenlivet after games a little too much. The Cullen situation was gross and they certainly closed up ranks to protect one of their own. It's what it is.

Thamel is well sourced. He may be a jerk b/c he isn't genuflecting towards Syracuse but who cares. I don't root for media. I root for good information. Everyone has some agenda b/c of their specific sources. Maybe Pete's sources left with Darryl Gross. I have no idea. Maybe Pete didn't get a recommendation from Rubin at Newhouse going for a job. Nothing is what it is.

my whole point is who cares. I root for Syracuse, not SI/Boston Globe/WAER or the Post Standard

This is exactly the point. If you’re a fan of a program and a guy seems biased against it then yeah you should care because he makes us look bad.

It’s increasingly important to understand a pronounced bias so you can understand the filter the precious info is flowing through. I care that a once well-respected journalist seems to have a consistent bias against my alma mater that makes us look bad. I can’t trust *anything* he says - not because of sources or quality of reporting - but because of his track record. There’s a tipping point with reporters where their filter distorts too much, making the info worthless (think Fox News).

They had this thread back in 2008 or 2009 just crushing everything to do with the Washington Nationals. It was one of the best things I've read in the history of the English language.

They have threads on anything and everything.
Boston sports fans complain about everything it explains me.
The our mistakes media page is my favorite board on there.

“North Carolina hung 50 on them”

That says all you need to know. The worst.
I don't have issues with calling the SU secondary porous. It is. Syracuse is 108th in the country in passing yards allowed. They have given up an enormous number of big plays. Special teams have helped mitigate this, as has a strong SU pass rush. The defense does create a lot of turnovers, mostly keyed by the strong pass rush.

But Pete should at least be close when using facts to support his opinions. UNC scored 27 on Syracuse in regular time and and 10 in the 2 overtimes played.

His analysis and research here is shoddy and he should be embarrassed. I don't think his forte is in this area.

His strength is covering what happens off the field in sports. If I were him, I will stick to that.

Agree with all.

To take it a step further, most semi-polished college football analysts would know that Dino expects to win every game in regulation when his team gives up 27 points. But that day, the offense just wasn't clicking and he had to go to the bullpen.

It worked, we pulled out a win where we normally lose, and we managed to do it without a real QB controversy (just a made up one on the internet).

The guys on The First Team radio show on SXM (who are ok, not great) even realized this. Outside of Clemson, VT, they've barely mentioned our names the past 2 years.

He's like Gottlieb. Being a troll is his brand.

If he started congratulating the football team for its success and progress, would people here suddenly gain a new respect for him?

There's so much negativity with people who write and talk sports. I think there's people you should just put on a permanent ignore.

This.
Never understood why folks get so worked up w/ commentators, going back to the days of Howard Cosell on MNF. He became a national figure fans loved to hate, and networks noticed.
It’s now morphed into the Steven A. Smith’s of the world, and exacerbated all these years by trolls like that little dweeb, Jim Rome. Now it’s just expected: everyone has to have an “edge”, which loosely translated, just means that you have to act like a tool, in order to be noticed.

He didn’t like how we handled the scandal.

He wanted to see JB's head on a plate and didn't get that. Now he's butthurt. Too bad JB had zero to do with the scandal when all was said and done...other than having to open his checkbook to satiate the easily offended.
