Hasn't seen any action the last six games. Is he hurt or just not showing enough ability in practices?

1, His knee was wrapped in ice a few weeks ago.

2. He's only played in 3 games. As long as he's played in less than 10 games by the mid-point of the season (Virginia on Jan 7) and he doesn't play after the Virginia game, he can still redshirt.

Basically very little reason to redshirt kids these days with the portal because you are lucky if they stay more than a couple of years. They’ll either rise to compete or transfer out for a better playing opportunity.

I do think Carey has strong upside, but keep in mind he’s barely played any basketball the past two years. Going against Jesse and Hima every day will make him better.

People won’t like this answer but he’s just not that good unfortunately. Athletic yes. But that’s legitimately the case and I’m not doggin the kid either

Anyone who has watched him play basketball knows that.

He’s tall and can jump high.

He’s not remotely good at b-ball at the D-1 level yet. Maybe down the road.

He's athletic and not awkward...that's a good start. He now needs to develop skills, and if patient, should be able to provide meaningful minutes by his junior year.

I think we'd have seen a little more if Hima wasn't as good as hes been but there are no minutes at the 5 he is redshirting.

He’s raw

Not up to par at this time to justify any relevant PT

I agree in most circumstances, but this would be a circumstance to redshirt (not saying he will, but it would make sense).

He wasn’t recruited anywhere else significant and likely wouldn’t be able to transfer at this level. He knew coming in he wouldn’t play right away. Why not preserve a year of eligibility - he’ll be sitting the bench either way.

Disclaimer - very excited about his future so I would love him to redshirt and keep getting better. You’re right that playing against Jesse and Hima will really help him.

It’s very difficult for anyone outside of the team to have any idea how good Carey is or isn’t because no one has seen him. He had a cancelled junior season, injured senior season and so far this year he has played 20 minutes.

Looked really good in a practice I watched.

What makes you think he's not good enough ?

Well, he hasn’t played in 2 years.

kids can RS to help themselves down the road or RS to help the team down the road. Sometimes its both

jb haș already dug into the bench far more than he's comfortable. imo.

Is this personal opinion or some insider related stuff. Seems very definitive otherwise.
