Peter Carey

Is this personal opinion or some insider related stuff. Seems very definitive otherwise.
Both. JBA was very much this same case early on too. There’s definitely something there but he just can’t hold his own yet

Important to remember he missed practically his sophomore - senior year of HS basketball (if I remember correctly). Still, the kid should’ve been A10 level at best. At best, I see him maybe being a bench contributor junior year and not so dominant starter senior year (even assuming a redshirt this year). But if that’s the case, I would think he’d transfer beforehand with the way the portal is now.

Peter Carey has a much higher ceiling than JBA. PC isn’t playing because he is our third center. He is our third center because 1. He is a frosh and needs to get stronger, 2. He is behind a borderline NBA pick, and 3. Our backup center is pretty good. Kid just needs time. It’s not that he isn’t good.

I agree that if Cuse didn't scoop him up he would have played at a lower level, but I disagree that he'll be unable to grow into a really good player. Griff said pre-season he's the most athletic kid on the team. An extremely athletic 7-footer who needs to add muscle and gain experience is the exact type of kid who goes from bench warmer to stud. He also has basketball skills. We won't know for another year or two, but I think Carey could be really good. He just needs to buy in and be patient.

Agree. Pete has a lot of work to do to get to the level of an accomplished ACC center.

He is way behind in terms of experience and physical development but he has the raw skills to be good. It is going to take a lot of hard work in practice and in the weight room to get where he needs to be.

In this day and age, most players are not willing to work hard and wait their turn. If Pete is, he can be a big part of this team down the road. Hope he stays with the program and keeps developing.

He isn’t good right now. That’s why I said he’s not ready yet. He has a very long way to go until he even plays let alone contributes. But that was expected by the staff as well. Cmon you know we always need a project at center that needs to add 75 pounds every year lol

Any chance he gives us minutes this year? Maybe like a Hima role from this past year

He is athletic and runs like a deer so if we are moving to an uptempo transition style of play, he will be an asset and be able to show off his dunks and get points around the basket. In JB's system, he's Hima light, which almost has no weight.

Carey is EXTREMELY athletic and has tremendous mobility for a 6-10+ guy. He's also more skilled that many guys his size.

But he lacks game experience, he's skinny, and is not strong.

Really, I could see his career unfolding either way -- as he gains experience and gets stronger, he could emerge as a surprise contributor next season, with a future as a starter [the Jesse Edwards path].

Or he might never put it together, and he ends up flopping [the Devin McBride path].

Impossible to say at this point. But he's got intriguing tools.

But as stated above, nothing would surprise me. He's that green / unproven.

Does he make sense in a post zone world, assuming that’s the case?

Just curious what the consensus is here on him.

On a scale of 1 (IDK, say Craig Forth) and 10 (Wembaya/Holmgren) what are we looking at here?

He will be a starter on a good team here at some point

I just hope he's healthy. Last thing I read about him said that he was getting some special kind of treatment to stimulate blood flow to his knee ligaments and tendons.

He had that same treatment on his other knee last year and it was very successful. They’re hoping he has the same success with the other knee.
