Class of 2025 PF Francis Folefac (MD) Portal from Siena

In the current landscape, I would never take less to go anywhere, regardless of familiarity. You only have so much time to maximize your value.

And if I'm Syracuse, I wouldn't pay more than $500k for Folefac. There are better value pickups for $800k in the portal.
You still might take less if you think you will complete for a championship. Or if you are a center that wants to go to a program that has a reputation for developing centers, etc. people who are borderline NBA prospects might want to go to a place where they feel they will be best coached and developed, for the long term payday.

With Folefacs size and skill set he appears to me as the kind of guy who probably will never be a pro, but might be a very good college player and would make sense to chase the best payday, but his case is not necessarily like everybody else’s.

Did you speak to the coach himself, the GM or the player to obtain this information, Thanks
My gosh seriously the animosity. I'm so sorry i'm just like an evidence based kind of guy. It's a scientific kind of thing I apologize. I honestly have a hard time thinking that anyone who disliked my post would have a hard time understanding. That is sort of scientific as well. If you care to discuss you can certainly DM me and I would help you as much as possible. I would be able to give you a prognosis afterwards

Wow did not realize he had a burner. Learn something new everyday
I am loving it even more, the old burners, in terms of the degeneration of brain cells. Secondary to illicit and erroneous content of a highly subjective nature. I like it! Where do I sign up. No sorry I actually like myself a lot but anyways it's OK. No burners here I promise.

You might not. But other players make different decisions. Yaxel spurned Kentucky and took way less money to go to Michigan to develop with a better and more proven coach that he trusted.

Syracuse has money. It’s important to remember that negotiations are two sided and they both have a number in mind. If they can’t come together, there will be no deal. That’s likely what’s happening with Folefac. You don’t overpay for a kid just because of prior connections.
I think he’s an important piece for building the culture that Gmac wants at SU. People on here said we would get Doty and Folefac, the guys from Siena with the highest upside, and they were players that would help with Gmac building the culture of his team because they were part of it last year.

The animosity unequivocally lies within your own post that you quoted, unequivocally.

There are better value pickups (than Folec) for $800k in the portal.
How does anyone know that? Syracuse may have to pay a premium to get players to come here. Losing returning players. No tournament in 5 years. Disgruntled (at best) fan base. What does SU offer other than money? Solid education? BFD. The world is less and less concerned with where anyone went to school. You know who can offer less? Schools that win! You know who doesn’t offer less? Schools that win. The market sets the value of the player, not keyboard college GMs. Let’s see what Gerry and the crew come up with before bitching about things that frankly, about most of us, including me, have no clue.

What if that’s exactly what Georgia Tech is doing.

I agree with your points.

To state the obvious, going for a college education at a “quality university” is not a selling point for 95% of the players in the transfer portal. The deciding point is marketability and dollar value. Where can a player make the most money and where can a player go to get the most visibility to best develop for his next opportunity, be it the NBA or European Leagues or the next transfer portal school that will pay for his play?

It is a shame that playing sports in college has evolved (or degraded) to this state of paid entertainment. Believe loyalty to a college sports team is now determined by how much is a college willing to pay for play.

Don’t get me wrong, I love college basketball and am an almost life long fan especially of Syracuse my home town. I was also a fan of the basketball team of colleges I graduated from (Dayton and Maryland). It is just the college loyalties I had for their teams are more or less tainted or stained by the transient, vagabond players that view pay is more important than a quality college education.

Is a solid college education at a quality university even a factor these days for college sports?

It is, but so far, Syracuse has been much more successful signing portal players than GT. Last I checked, they had only signed two 3 star players. Not exactly the foundation for success.

That’s what I was getting at. They are desperate. We can afford to sit back a bit. Turtles MO is always to sht on everything here like a true cnyer.

I am finding it interesting, that we are now so hot to trot for multiple Sienna players. How did Gerry do such a great job in identifying and developing these guys while Red and the rest of our staff failed so dismally ?

Hopefully, Gerry can continue to find some under the radar guys each season.

I would chase the money - every time. Kid is not making the league. That said his post game improved a lot over the year which I assume is due in part to working with AO. Pros and cons for both but if the money isn't close - take the cash, put up numbers and enter the portal next year.

Sure, but we are specifically talking about his case which is why I'm saying he should go where the money is.
I would say the 800k is purely speculation and sometimes agents try to create a bidding war. Just like selling a house the proof is in the offer. Some of these kids have agents taking 20%-40% of the deal and giving bad advice.
Yes, every team is lying about the money that they offering except for Syracuse. There haven't been many power conference examples of kids not getting what they were promised in NIL so I'm not sure how you can say this.
