I mean the fact we have to twist and turn to try and make it seem we are recruiting higher caliber players than we are is telling. Shouldn't happen at Syracuse. Gurrier is a nice recruit, but he isn't Stewart. The last real blue chip recruit we had was arguably McCollough. Richardson and Battle may have been borderline, but we aren't landing those blue chippers right now. Getting a few guys in our class barely in or around the top 100 and being content with that year after year will make this program a perennial mid tier ACC team.
Battle was absolutely a blue chip. This is goofy.

We haven't been recruiting at a real elite level for a while now. Our class coming in is not what I'd consider an elite class by any stretch. Let's not kid ourselves, we really don't seem to be on the radar for 5 star/top 25 kids for some time now.

This class is like the 2002 class; they set a nice solid foundation, if we could bring in an elite scorer or two. That's what our roster looks like to me right now. Very good athletes, lots of pieces for the next couple years, lots of specialists, but a couple guys will have to emerge as leaders. Few of them projected as elite talents out of high school. We are still working with guys who have upside but aren't finished products.

No our recruiting is hurting. The past 3 years (2019, 2018, and 2017) we have had 2 players ranked in the top 100. Over a 3 year period. Carey and Goodine is it. And Goodine is barely in.

2016 we had 3 top 100 recuits. More in 1 year than our past 3 year combined.
2015 we had 3 top 100 recuits
2014 we had 2
2013 we had 3
2012 we had 2
2011 we had 2
2010 we had 3

So from 2010 to 2016 we had equal or more top 100 recuits than we have gotten in our past 3 recruiting classes combined. And we don't need elite talent but we should at least be getting top 100 players. And I'm not knocking lowly rated players. There is a role for them on our team. But when they are coming in as the primary guys then we have issues.

The past 3 year the average ranking for our recruits is 189.9

The previous 6 years our average recruit ranking was 64.6.

That is a huge jump. Almost 3 times higher the past 3 years. We are struggling to get talent

Wow. Those numbers hurt my eyes just to read them.

oshae was the 2017 canadian national player of the year. played in & dominated their equivalent of the mcdonald's game. quincy played in that game last year & led his team with 19 pts on 8/10 shooting

Guerrier, too. We've got quite a pipeline going. We are getting top Canadian and New England Prep talent. Those seem to be our best pipelines lately. I thought Autry was supposed to be strong in MD/VA and that Griff had connections in Ohio and Michigan, but I'm not seeing it yet.

We need to turn it up a notch, especially if we are on a 3 year timeline to win one last one for JB. Not getting a player like Stewart hurt the quest. We have to have one of those guys to have a chance.

No he didn't. Mike and Capel can get mirror records and the ACC guy is the one that will go dancing first.
Yes, but isn't it going to be far easier for Hop to have a better record than Capel? ACC is a tougher road than the PAC12. That doesn't matter as far as which guy got the better job–i'm just sayin'.

Stewart is definitely going out on a limb with Hop...

Will the potential lack of brand building hurt him come draft time? Probably not but it had to have been something he thought about.

NBA talent evaluators aren’t idiots. They’ll find you if you’re good .. Ja morant is a top 5 pick

You’re right but we’ve seen first hand where great performances on the biggest stage can propel a guy to a better draft position.

Is it just me, or has this board been infested by negative aholes lately... just waiting to piss in everyone’s Cheerios? It’s almost unreadable.
Losing a recruit is not the end of the world, and we’re not falling off the cliff. Calm the f’k down, you pathetic pansy snowflakes! Sheesh.

It’s not just you... only thing to do is call ppl out

how many 5 stars did the 2010 team have again?

Lately? My mentor(maybe the most positive guy in board history) has been gone for years now because of it. I've actually become one of them a chunk of the time...it's just being realistic.

darius bazley was actually the last one. the fact that he didn't make it to campus is a separate issue from the fact that it was a successful recruitment of a high caliber player.

You’re still Washington basketball. I wouldn’t get overly excited.
If I were him, I would be pretty excited. They may end up with 2 top 10 players in this class. However, I wouldn't be a dickhead and post the crap he has at someone else's message board.

Yeah that was a crap move. Then talking about the other players UW is getting or might get. Save that for the home board. Some fans have zero decorum.

You left out the part about Hop's Dad being in poor health, and Seattle is where his Dad lives.
Hop’s dad doesn’t live in Seattle. He and the rest of Hop’s family live in Southern California, Orange County specifically, which is where Hop grew up. His dad suffers from Alzheimer’s.

Good point. Funny thing about DB...Duke had not one, but 4 recruits ahead of our top 10 recruit(the lone one in...how many years?!?) in the same class. They all showed up to play, too. Just for perspective of what we compete against in our conference alone twice(at least) this season. Finally hitting that "lofty" 2 win mark in the conference tourney isnt a guarantee this year, either. But we can always write epically long essays full of excuses on here as an opiate, I suppose. People keep bragging up the ACC, but what does it mean if you cant win in it like we used to win back in the day? I wonder if BC(or whomever) does the same on their board?

I dont necessarily agree with what either camp is saying, but thought I'd help some undedogs make their point in a way that is more straightforward than many of my posts.

(EDIT: Moqui, this isnt aimed at you. I just dont like bullying or hints of it, for the most part, and like to play "devil's" advocate at times to make the discussion more like a close game instead of something lopsided...because it's apparent to me that the outcome of debates isn't necessarily related to the facts at hand, but intepretation and presentation, among other things. And if I'm not exactly sober, it tends to make contributing feel a bit more rewarding, for some reason...at least in the moment. The next day, who knows).

All these pages and no mention of a bag. Proud of you guys.

lol good observation! ...although plenty of bags have been spotted in the thread. (yeah, Im looking to become more of a bad guy wrestler, I'm just getting tired...and drunk after this and the NFL refs screwing me out of money in the same day).

EDIT: TBH, I'm not certain a bag wasnt mentioned at least once in this thread. I'm guessing most of us havent seen and remembered every post, so I'm not questioning your integrity.

Wow. Didn't realize it was that bad.
