Agreed - it seems more like it'd be potentially be Stewart, plus Guerrier or Akok, -
since there's more of a logjam amongst wing-type players than true Bigs (and I think Akok is more the former, although he has the height of a big).

Assuming both Battle and OSB are gone (very high possibility), we'd still have in the wings (pun intended):
Marek, Hughes, Braswell, Buddy, and then maybe also Guerrier/Akok - that's a lotta wing-type players.

Stewart would pretty much be a lock to start at either the 5 ahead of Sidibe or at the 4 ahead of Marek, et al. Top-5 guys at non-UK/Duke programs aren't going to have to scrap for a starting spot.

Guess we'll hafta see how Akok's visit goes, and if we can move the needle at all.

QG and Zay both apparently enjoyed their respective visits immensely, and both have ties to current players on the team, and a good comfort level with the coaches.

Lots of question marks about how the roster might unfold:
  • Would Hughes [after a year of getting a lot of PT in 2019] shift to guard to replace the departed Battle, or would he project purely as a 3?
  • Does Sidibe prove that he's healthy, and position himself to seize the starting spot in the pivot?
  • Would Buddy really be relegated to the bench sophomore year if Hughes shifts to 2?
  • Would a junior Dolezaj -- who's in line to start this year -- really not start as a third year junior?

First world problems, to be sure.

Man... it is way more fun to discuss which of all these really good players that may want to come here with an already talented team we may prefer vs scholarship limited years hoping to find servicable players on the grad circuit last minute. Very VERY good players like Wahab and Carrigan may just be flat turned away.

Buddy will not be shifted to Non-scholly. JB has been beating the "he is just like every other player" drum the whole time. He wont do anything to single Buddy out.

Probably not. But if it comes down to adding a player like Akok or Guerrier, and we need a scholarship to do so then it isn't outside the realm of possibility. Please note, I think we can add a class of six without having to go this route -- just raising the possibility.

People make too much of Buddy somehow being different. He's been around this team / these players for YEARS. After he proves that he belongs this year, being singled out won't remotely matter.

Hyperbole.
We had a class with Derrick Coleman AND Stevie Thompson. 'Nuff said.

Not hyperbole at all, on either count.

It WOULD challenge for a #1 overall rating in the class of 2019.

And it WOULD be in contention for best overall class under JB. Whether it lives up to that billing would remain to be seen, but it would certainly be among the most highly rated classes he's brought in.

Kentucky already has 2 top 10s for next year, and they're far from finished. #1 may be a bit out of reach...

My guesses:

  • Hughes IS a 2, so that 'shift' just puts him back where he belongs.
  • I hope and pray Dib stays healthy and keeps progressing - but it's unlikely he beats out Zay if that's where we need to play him so he can start.
  • Buddy's gonna be a bench guy for much/most/all of his career - not like he's a starter now.
  • Marek - see: Coach Griffin's Jr. year. Not at all without precedent.
Yup! We'd love to deal with these 'issues'.

Using the class calculator on 2fo7 if we landed all three we would currently be second, behind USC. A top 5 class for sure though.

Absolutely would be considered for JB’s best class. Assuming they all make it to campus and nobody pulls a Fred Walton, ha.

Really like how things are trending. Even if no Stewart; the fact that JB/Syracuse are being seriously considered to the bitter end with these guys is huge. Wonder if Boeheim at all is planning on mixing up defenses here and there a la Pitino with all of these athletic bodies. You get Stewart and no worries if Akok goes elsewhere. The recent Frank interview showed that these current youngins are the real deal. Frank seemed VERY impressed with Carey/Buddy/Hughes. Braswell may or may not be recruited over which is fine of course but it seems like he has some great long term potential. Gonna be a fun next couple of years. You should try to get down to Columbus for the game and soil the place after a W.

Braswell might be recruited over for a year or 2 but if hes around (doesnt transfer for some reason) then he will be getting serious playing time as a upperclassman. Kid has legit talent just a couple years away from putting it to real use!

there is currently enough talent in the program that we could be done with just bg, jba and jgiii and be fine.

but of course we're not done. add just one of the remaining targets and this good class becomes very good; add two or more and it becomes great!

Buddy starts for 2 years, minimum.

Stewart drops 5 spots,, minimum, if he signs with SU

Buddy will start at the 2 next year. I’m pretty sure of that.
Well, if he establishes himself with his play---on the court, during games---that he is the best talent we have on the team at that position, then he will start, of course. And all the other players on the team would approve.

But he won't start simply because he's his father's son...

I think there was a little bit of entitlement on their side and they've been outworked.
I suspect Capel leaving has hurt them. He may have been playing the Book Richardson role at Duke and helping funnel shoe money to the top players.

I think these are all good questions. The answers may mean we only land Guerrier or Akok, not both. Even if Oshae turns pro, we’d still have 3 forwards on the roster before adding anyone. We could move Hughes to the 2, which would mean a guard rotation of Jalen Carey, Buddy, and Hughes. JB usually doesnt play more than 3 guards significant rotation minutes. Which means guys like Goodine and Girard wouldn’t get much time as freshman, barring injury, but would be slated for big roles as sophomores.

The other thing Boeheim can point to is how Dion Waiters accepted a role coming off the bench as our microwave player and it made him a lottery pick in the NBA draft. If you have that kind of NBA talent and show it on the court, it doesn't matter how the coach uses you to take advantage of your skills...

I luv Goodines game and the fit with our program, he’s gonna be a goodie! Elijah is one of the glue players, he will always find a spot bc he can play and makes guys better, let’s just sign a few more kids, enjoy this season and let JB figure it all out, I’m stoked for SU b-ball, if all goes to plan , Buddy starts his Jr and Sr years, Elijah starts as shooting guard with Carey. Easy to see it all fill out
