Class of 2022 PF Jaret Valencia (TX/Colombia) Portal to Wichita St

Athletes athletes athletes. This team might block more shots in the first five games then it did all of last season.
Last year we traded blocks for rebounds. Big Eddie gave but he also took away.

Does it look like Valencia is going to commit to us? And when do you think we’ll know by?

I think White will see some time. I think Freeman is going to be more of a pure forward. I don't think he wants to be stuck at center.
Looking at the roster, there are times where Kyle is going to be out. At those times, the coach’s decision is whether to have White or Souare playing… I think many times the answer is going to be White over Souare. That means Freeman is de facto the center.

Looking at who Red is recruiting, he doesn’t seem to have a problem with that.

A lineup of Freeman, White, Valencia, Kingz, and George would be undersized if you were judging by weight… But they would go 6’10, 6’9, 6’8, 6’5, 6’4 and have an extremely athletic group up front. Maybe that mitigates the lack of mass?

(I chose Kingz over Starling because any lineup with White and Valencia needs all the three point shooting it can get. Both can hit them, but you only want them shooting threes if they are wide open.)

I don’t think you want to do it for very long each game, but I’m kind of growing into the idea of Kyle, Souare, Freeman, White, and another athletic 6’9 guy like Deng or Valencia or Bristow being the last forward.

After watching film, I would go with Valencia before Deng by a bit and before Bristow by a wide margin. Valencia is an incredible athlete, and a very good weakside shotblocker.

I cannot believe I find myself kinda hoping for more zone with all this size and athleticism. I've apparently lost my mind.

Just an innocent question. I’m not coming at you. I was just wondering if you left Womack off the forwards list because you forgot about him, I know that I have? Or did you leave him off because you don’t think he’s good enough to play? I believe he’s being underrated and he’ll help us out off the bench at SF.

We aren't in a hurry to make a decision. Might be because be want to see who is out there. Might be because no one has said yes, yet. I think we are done with Deng. Which is too bad because he would have been a very good get for us. Maybe it comes back around. But I sort of doubt it.

He is suppose to be a very good shooter. And that alone can get you minutes.

For everyone screaming about bulky low post players if we have 3 or 4 quick guys to play.
You have a good point guard who can throw the lob, you do that every time down the floor, and the bulky low post player is sitting on the bench.

I think it becomes a numbers game with Womack. I haven’t forgotten him, but he has an uphill battle for playing time if we had a traditional roster. With us essentially going with a three guards, two forwards lineup, I see little playing time for him.

Womack to me is a SG/SF guy, that could grow into a SF/PF with proper dedication to S&C.

Looking at the roster, who is he likely to beat out for playing time?

Freeman, White, Kingz, Anthony, Fennell and Starling are already ahead of him in my (perceived) depth chart for wings.

If Red were recruiting a center or another point guard, I’d say there was hope for Womack at the end of the rotation.

But Red is still recruiting forward depth… Whichever 6’9 combo forward we get, he’s another guy pushing Womack back.

I’m happy Womack is here, I’d take him straight up over Davis and Lucas Taylor as a depth shooting guard/small forward. But he isn’t going to play much, this season. But we said the same thing about Davis and Lucas Taylor last season… They started a lot of games because guys were injured or underperformed.

Womack might be a redshirt candidate if nobody ahead of him has problems. But you rarely go a season without injuries or something else happening.

Smart- with the roster 90 pct completed makes a lot of sense to be diligent here.

If you want to get back to being a top program you have to have take guys into your program who may not play due to better talent in front of them. That’s of course a risk they leave but the benefit if they are better than expected or stick around and develop is worth it.

Did Jaret Valencia commit via his Instagram story or is he just using the video they make recruits to gauge how people are feeling?

Well, it is not like we have not been manhandled by wide bodies before this year. We need a true backup center.

Says not committed but have like the chance with pictures of him with the coaches.
