The guys we lost out on are being realistic about minutes at the 3.

-Kingz gets a minimum of 20 at SF (with more at SG)

-Kiyan gets minutes here. (No way Melos kid, with Melo in the dome, is not getting minutes)

-Freeman gets minutes here. (If White is contributing, and too good to be just a 10 mpg backup at the 4, which is likely).

-Womack is a wild card who may earn minutes.

The way I see it, is any top (long athletic) wing coming here has to be more valuable than White to get significant minutes. (15+). Where that player + Freeman at the 4, is better than Freeman at the 3 and White at the 4.

I don’t think Valencia is that player.

We could use another shooter but I think we need someone who is content at 10 mpg and/or used situationally. Probably a lesser athlete who is a pure shooter but not athletic enough for a bigger role

Would have loved to grab Valencia. Has crazy potential. I love when people act like guys aren’t that good when we miss on them. Valencia was a big miss at this point of the portal free agency. Yes there are other guys out there and I hope we can add some decent depth when the dust settles.

Edit: After doing some research I found out Valencia played in HS under new Shockers assistant coach PJ Couisnard. Hard to beat those relationships.

I can’t blame Autry for having a hard time selling this last spot. I don’t want to sell used Kia’s and Nissans. How many minutes are really available. Freeman is going to play 30 plus. Kingz isn’t going to play less than 25 mpg. White and Anthony are going to play some. This is a tough sell.

I think that’s part of the reason why we “missed” on Deng. Valencia had ties back to Wichita State coaching staff.

I think we will target a mid-major player (Keitenn Bristow) as a 3 and D type of guy that has more potential. I think all three freshman (White, Anthony, Fennell) play significant minutes at times this year but it would be nice if their minutes were given because they demand it, not because we need it

Thats fair, I think it’s more the potential he has to be more efficient from 3 given he is a good shooter and wouldn’t have to create as much on Syracuse.

Yeah, between another forward and backup center, my guess is, Kline will unearth some under radar foreign or Euro players like he did with Petar LY (if anything).
