I completely agree with the culture aspect of the rebuild.
However, just to put things in perspective -- we retained TWO players off of last year's roster [White and Kiyan]. We knew that we were going to have to go recruit nearly an entirely new roster of players to fill those holes. That means we need to add multiple starting caliber guys at key positions.
And at minimum, need to add plus starters at PG and C, in addition to adding quality depth.
So far, we haven't filled either gaping roster hole. As of right now, we don't even HAVE a point guard on the roster [please don't indicate that someone like Doty or Kiyan might be able to handle that role].
And if we go out and sign a bunch of low major guys based only upon "culture" considerations, it is difficult to envision us having success on the court. Not because Gerry's approach to team culture is wrong, but because right now we don't have enough quality players to WIN GAMES.
We have to do BOTH. Land impact players at key positions, and get guys who are going to buy-in.
