I like who he brought in but based on “big names” and “big splashes” with high ratings, he didn’t. I know it should be taken with a grain of salt but 2-4-7 doesn’t have one guy rated with 4 stars for the football transfers. Doty is a 4 star. Fran didn’t bring in a big money guy. He had a lot of holes to fill and did it without bringing in some dude who cost $3 mil. Hopefully Gerry can do the same

I completely agree with the culture aspect of the rebuild.

However, just to put things in perspective -- we retained TWO players off of last year's roster [White and Kiyan]. We knew that we were going to have to go recruit nearly an entirely new roster of players to fill those holes. That means we need to add multiple starting caliber guys at key positions.

And at minimum, need to add plus starters at PG and C, in addition to adding quality depth.

So far, we haven't filled either gaping roster hole. As of right now, we don't even HAVE a point guard on the roster [please don't indicate that someone like Doty or Kiyan might be able to handle that role].

And if we go out and sign a bunch of low major guys based only upon "culture" considerations, it is difficult to envision us having success on the court. Not because Gerry's approach to team culture is wrong, but because right now we don't have enough quality players to WIN GAMES.

We have to do BOTH. Land impact players at key positions, and get guys who are going to buy-in.

I’ll agree and add that some people’s implication that guys who want to maximize their earnings are inherently not a “culture fit” is bizarre. GMac said it best, “I’ll always take good…”

Agree.

Star players make the role players play better and their jobs easier. You can do that a number of ways you stars don’t have to be a certain position but now that we have signed a bunch of role player types first we have limited ourselves to certain positions to bring in star players. And it just so happens those positions are very competitive and cost a ton and now we have a problem of limited money because we already paid our “role” players and can’t over bid for the stars we need in the positions we need them

I’m not impatient at all. I’m just starting to see the annual coping that somehow our coaches are the ones being smart and finding the diamonds in the rough. We’ve thought too small around here for a very long time and the results have reflected that. I don’t think Gerry is thinking small. We need a star player. I’m looking forward to seeing one commit.

Stop. Lots of threads here about prospects we've been linked to, we aren't going to get them all, and we might not even actively pursue them all. So if you want to pat yourself on the back about us not pursuing recruit X versus recruit Y, that's fine.

But the push back you're getting is on the take that a player with this level of productivity shouldn't be pursued. That is 100% false, happy to own that opinion.

Oh 100%, but we had fewer holes by far on that roster. This past portal he had a ton of holes to fill. We had a lot of solid veterans coming back in 2024, thanks to him retaining them. Not the case going into this season
