I guess every player is a year to year thing now. Maybe also why pay him to sit and take the chance that he'll leave. Have we gotten to the point yet where the athletes can be signed to enforceable multi-year contracts? Of, maybe he just wanted too much $.

I think you misinterpreted his comment. I think he was suggesting the kid had a bunch of money, leased a car and then was jettisoned and lost his money and now he has a big car payment. Maybe I am off but I thought that was tha direction of his comment.

your theory assumes we can afford to keep the player after we develop them. where is the evidence that we can do that because not one player that has shown gains has stayed. at some point you need to bring in the players that will bring wins. Michigan won with the number one portal class last year. the top teams year in and year out have the top classes, the ones that lose are the ones that pay to develop players and also can't keep them.

there is no evidence either way, we are both assuming. i'm going to believe in the short nil history here that Syracuse can't compete with other schools with more resources. every year these contracts go up and we seem to have the nil that was competitive the year before not the current year. they keep saying we have more money then last year, the fact is everyone has more then last and when you start out behind you're still behind.

Last season the staff wanted to retain Donnie and JJ. They retained Donnie and JJ. This season the staff wanted to retain Kiyan and Sadiq. They retained Kiyan and Sadiq. Women's Basketball, they wanted to retain Uche Izoje, they retained Uche Izoje. Football, they wanted to retain Steve Angeli, Antoine Deslauriers, Demetres Samuels, and Byron Washington, they retained those players. Are we at the top of the food chain, no, but we are far from the bottom, and actually have momentum. Now you have to build on it, but plenty of programs at the power conference level would struggle with the type of retentions Syracuse has been able to do.

If you think gmac didn’t want to retain Donnie you’re nuts. he didn’t get the please go speech. If they can’t afford to keep someone it’s oh we don’t want him.

I don’t think it’s vitriol. It is more it just didn’t work out and you can’t pay that much for a guy who has been injured and underwhelmed in his time here ( fair to blame coaching on that too). It is one of those things where it works to benefit both sides. He wasn’t going to be happy coming back here and the player he actually is doesn’t fit right.

If he had been healthy and performed I probably see it differently but the injury is too much. I fully expect it to re emerge wherever he lands even if he plays through it.

I want and think Donnie will succeed at his next place as long as he stays healthy. Would feel more confident in that if it were UConn or Alabama.

“Vitriol” is a strong word but the dude was our highest ranked recruit in over 20 years and missed over half his career games here - and a few of those were business decisions.

It’s ok to say he wasn’t good here man … I promise you he won’t get offended. Red was a disaster but Judah took over and won plenty of games by himself. Donnie just never that guy here and a top 10 recruit at that

If he had been healthy and performed, he’d be finishing his rookie season in the NBA and all of this would be a moot point.
