Class of 2023 PG Garwey Dual (TX) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (4/11/26)

Not getting any true difference makers to help us win year 1 and/or not spending all of our available money (we saw how that worked out this past year).

I don't think we are going to be getting any type of big-name player now. I don't know exactly how much money we have, so I don't know if we will or will not be spending it all.

People keep saying it is early, just wait etc...

You are correct, it is early, but it isn't early for us anymore; there aren't many minutes left to distribute. 4 out of 5 starting positions already taken. Backup big is done. We have 1 backup swing man. So we don't have many spots left to fill, and not many truly impactful spots left to fill.

Ok so Dual started 17 games last year at McNeese. While I mentioned him as a starter I’m thinking maybe that’s not the role here looking at that figure honestly. I could see a scenario where we add our starting PG , add another wing plus our center but do not specifically add a guy for guaranteed minutes at PF and have another SF shooter type instead. Thus Garwey plays 3 positions backing up all 3.

That is definitely the worry and we were sold that with Gmac we’d have the NIL needed.

Most big named portals aren't signed yet, next 2-3 weeks will get hot. But what concerns me is insiders saying we're not connected to the big names. Let's just hope it's because Gmac and Co. are playing things closer to the vest than anyone realizes.

Wont this be his last year in college? Not saying it isn't possible but signing this early to be a backup at the P5 level for your last year in college versus signing at a lesser program to start seems strange. Which is why I lean towards a starter here. Not saying he can't be a backup and I think he would be great as a backup but it seems strange from the player POV.

Exactly. I love this kid as a plug and play off the bench at 3 different spots, while also being able to run serious backup minutes at the point. The problem comes in with fit if he’s playing 25+ minutes a game at point.

Totally agree - much depends on how he is used.

We picked up a solid contributor who can play at the ACC level and probably got great value for money. If we have a roster filled with these types of guys, we will be just fine as long as they are coached well and execute.

Based on swag nil you did, I think we are still hunting starters. Dash indicated White was less and Doty is accurate. We have a ton of Nil left if the starting point was ~$12m. Let's see what happens.

I’m calm and quite pleased with the movement here. We are actually trying to be something unique versus following another programs script. Will it work? We’ll see, I will not judge based on 1 year. But we aren’t following another programs script that is becoming clear that has more resources than us and left with the bad version of the type of team they created. That’s what I felt was happening under Red.

Given that SU has zero PG's on the roster, it appears that young Master Garwey has just been given the keys to the 'Cuse - no? GMAC is prioritizing 6'5"-ish defenders who can face guard and also switch on high screens.

GMAC is also prioritizing ball security. Dual checks both boxes. Unless Dylan Mingo suddenly decommits from the Heels and comes to SU, along with his brother, I'd say GMAC has just added his starting PG to the mix.

A defensive mindset is being formed, with the likes of Dual, Doty and White - which will mix in with a few natural scorers like Kiyan and Mahmutovič and when the dust settles, a few other big men who will join Goodrick - post players who aren't afraid to defend and rebound.

On a team like the one GMAC is building, starting doesn't matter. What matters is character and respect. What matters is each player giving their all. The rest will take care of itself. I'm considering the PG vacancy at SU to be filled now. Time to focus on a few more post players.

That we know of. We didn’t know about 3m. The doom and gloom because we arnt linked to a player is just funny to me and overblown. Again George was a top pg last year how did that work?

Yea we obvi know we have a top scorer on campus right now visiting and another top scorer in Cox has already been here and we know him from being right down the road

So because we grabbed a guard today that means those guys are not in play anymore, highly doubt that. No offense to people making big assumptions on the line up but I think most of you have no idea.
