Well said - that’s what has stuck out to me in all the games. Kid is a fiery competitor. Hopefully he can be an example of how important it is to fight hard through screens in man defense as well.
I hope the bench guys realize that in order to stay on the floor, you must play defense or at least make a great effort on that end. Moore had some good offensive games last season but never grasped defense which led to less and less minutes for him. It was frustrating for a lot of us to see that he wasn’t getting on the floor because we badly needed his offense, but I guess Red wanted the young player to learn that he needed to pick it up defensively. In the old days guys would sulk and be upset, but had no choice but to get to work in practice - now it’s just easy to transfer.

This was a Straughn recruit, we got him before Kline
Kline was on staff when Fennell committed early last season.

When Fennell decided that he wanted to play college basketball in the States, Moldovan put the word out to several schools, including Syracuse. Moldovan knew SU general manager Alex Kline, who had previously worked as a scout for the New York Knicks.

“Once Luke and I decided college was an option,’’ Moldovan said, “Alex was one of the first phone calls that I made.’’

Furphy has been a black hole again.

Luke is the better prospect in my opinion. That’s also acknowledging that Furphy is no doubt a talented kid who will do well at UConn.

I think Fennell and Kiyan could easily man a second unit backcourt. Actually very similar players. Would love to see us go zone with them in. Two 6’5/6” guys up top who are long. And either can bring the ball up on O. Both can really score the ball. Although, I wouldn’t be surprised if Kiyan or Fennell starts at the 3 ahead of Kingz…

I’d be very surprised if they started over Kingz. Kingz is very good and now two years removed from the ACL is ready to really show off more than just that sweet outside jumper.

Fennell and Kiyan may both push JJ for his allotted minutes for sure and earn backup minutes overall including maybe together depending on ball handling for short spurts where George is off the floor.

Red has enough depth 1-3 so if anyone is having an off day, or doesn't play defense he can sit them for a few minutes. It also looks like the same situation at the 4 and 5.
There is no one on the team who shouldn't be fresh at the end to finish the game.

The coaches have very good problems to deal with. Practices should be very competitive.

Fennell prob wouldn’t start, but until we hear differently, I’d imagine Kiyan has as good a shot at starting at Kingz. Time well tell. But as we’re saying, nice logjam in the backcourt.
