Fwiw in a write up on Justin Taylor in the Athletic, Seth Davis said it is expected that Quadir will commit to Cuse soon. See below.

Justin Taylor, 6-6 guard, Team Takeover​

Taylor has already committed to Syracuse, and the first thing that struck me about him is his size. He’s tall and sturdy, and it’s obvious he has put in his hours in the weight room. I know Taylor has been billed as the next Buddy Boeheim, but while he’s not quite the shooter that Buddy was at this age, he’s considerably ahead in all other phases of the game. Taylor has a sweet 3-point stroke, but he’s not just a come-off-a-screen, catch-and-shoot guy. He has a quality one-dribble pullup jumper, and he can put the ball on the deck and get to the rim when he wants to, though he does so by using strength and angles as opposed to quickness and burst. Taylor also looked real comfortable running his team’s offense from the point. He has the tools to be a good rebounder from his position, but I didn’t see him do much of that. I’d also like to see him post up some more.

Syracuse looks like it’s headed for a very solid class. Besides Taylor, who is ranked No. 64 in the Class of 2022 by 247Sports, Jim Boeheim also has a commitment from Kamari Lands, a 6-8 forward from California whom 247Sports ranks 37th in the class. Quadir Copeland, a 6-6 guard from Pennsylvania who is ranked 141st, is expected to commit to soon as well. Those guys are good enough to help the Orange win but not so good that they’ll leave for the NBA after a year or two. That’s the sweet spot in recruiting.

i dont know a lot, but what i do know is seth davis has no clue how long either of those three players will be at cuse or when they will be ready for the nba

It's not that I did not "like" what you said. It has nothing to do with liking. And for the record, I respect you as a poster. Your claim that JJ is not a PG now and "never was a PG" is false. He did play PG at B'ville - fact, he played PG at La Lumiere - fact, and he did play PG for the Rocks this year - fact. Rumpel played PG at the EYBL so that Hart could get his 5 best players on the floor (guessing here). Starling is the best 2G on the Rocks AND the best PG, IMO (not claiming this as fact, only my opinion). Starling is being recruited as PG by other programs; although I agree some see him as a true combo guard, as do I.

I'll make a friendly wager with you right now that Starling and Westry will be way better players in college than Copeland. I realize that you are saying that Copeland and Westry are the better PGs and not necessarily who the better "player" will be. Without commenting too much on Copeland's game, I think the margin between the 3 players at PG is much closer than you think.

Finally, if your "major point" is that JJ and Copeland can coexist (even though that is not what I responded to), I fully agree.

im not going to address all your points because I’m not in the mood and I disagree with most of it. But I will say your fact that he was the PG at La Lumiere is not correct. He was not. A kid by the name of Jeremy Fears was the PG and played most of the game, as did JJ at the wing. Fears is a year behind JJ but is one of the top rated players in Indiana and has over a dozen offers already as a sophomore. Those include Gonzaga, Illinois, Iowa and others. I saw part of one game and JJ didn’t play PG at all. It was Fears the whole time. I found a short video of that game. You’ll actually enjoy it as there was some great shooting and JJ must have made 5 or 6 threes and was unconscious. But tell me after you watch it who was the PG?

Yeah, I watched only two La Lumiere games this year, but JJ was definitely the 2. He made some nice passes, but Fears was the point guard.
 
hes a true 2 like Joe is. Hopefully if he comes to SU he can play the 2 and not be forced to the point
 
Copeland didn’t play today but I think I saw him on the bench. Hope it wasn’t for sulking some the other day. He seems to get down when his team or him aren’t playing well.

When Quadir commits we will have a PG and two combo wings committed for the 22 class. It may seem like things have been chugging along slowly since all the early summer visits but the reality is that we have reloaded the 1-3 positions. After that the next priority is to add a big but there is flexibility to also take another kid at any position.

If Benny returns for a second year, and Edwards/Anselm progress, we could be getting back to a roster with the talent that the late 00's and early '10's had. Would be nice to get JJ.

Girard regressed as a point guard last season. He looked much better pushing tempo as a freshman. I think the jury is still out how much of a 1 he really is.

I'm optimistic about Torrence, but reality is he's had a very underwhelming first two years of production in college basketball. Now, he's going up a level in competition. At best he's an unknown quantity for now so it's difficult to predict his future, but I don't think it's crazy to think he could be bumped out of playing time if incoming guys are more talented (and I think there's a great chance ours could be depending on how recruiting unfolds).

Short of this all is, I think improving the talent at point guard could be really big for us, especially with Taylor coming in, especially with the possibility of playing Girard off the ball, especially since Lands may also be a great option at the 2. I'm not sure Starling accomplishes improving our talent at the 1.

That said, I wouldn't mind a scenario where there are legitimate battles for PT between multiple high level players. Let's get greedy.

He’s not going up a level Marquette meet North Carolina and the difference between conferences is minimal

Now, assuming he chooses us, then next year that's Copeland (PG), Kamari Lands. (), Justin Taylor (SG), probably Benny (), Frank & Jesse at C. Joe will still be around, along with Symir for guard depth and experience.

I kind of like Carey or Bunch after that, if we get another guy or two. If we get Copeland, we don't really need another PG until the following year, when Symir and Joe both graduate, opening up another slot.

Then you try to get Simeon Wilcher, 6-5 PG from the NY Rens who plays great defense. Him and Copeland as your PGs.
