It's no secret that it was Phil Knight who put Oregon football on the map with his insane donations to his alma-matre. That being said, what Syracuse alumni should we, as fans, be lobbying to donate to our athletic program, so we can finally afford to hire, and keep good coaches and assistants, and improve our facilities? God knows there are plenty of wealthy S.U. alumni, but do any of them have Phil Knight money...let alone an interest in building S.U. Football?

not many have phil knight money. i think what we need to do is throw a bunch of money at a first rate coach. like $4m per year.

If any super wealthy benefactors had an interest, they would have materialized by now.

The only reason it works with Phil Knight is because it's in essence an advertising expense (that's tax deductible!) and a mutual win-win for Nike and Oregon athletics.

Is Arthur Rock still alive? Dennis Crowley could be someone too. I imagine Foresquare has made a good amount of money. They could foresquare the hell out of Syracuse facilities.

Al-Waleed bin Talal also has a net worth of a about 30 billion. Can't he spart some? haha

i have to imagine phil knight is a super fan too. you need a diehard + boat loads of $

Syracuse University has more money. Then they let on, or people like to think.

I've said it before and will say it again. College Football is all about the "brand". Phil Knight is one of the best marketers that has ever lived. He took a relatively mediocre program, shined it up, added some wow-factor with uniforms, buildings, etc...and look at the ducks now. Coupled with their up-tempo high-octane offense, and Oregon is the ultimate brand in college football. Not the ultimate team...the ultimate brand.

Syracuse Football is an absolutely dead brand. Even when the team was playing well at the end of the Marrone years, the brand was still dead. There is nothing exciting about SU football. Uniforms suck, style of play is hard to watch, etc. It is either going to take a marketing genius with deep pockets (ala phil knight) or a 1-in-a-million recruit to change this perception.

No amount of 7 win seasons will make SU a top college football brand.

Kevin Plank has done it at Maryland and T. Boone Pickens has done it at Oklahoma State. Oregon still hasn't won a title. Syracuse doesn't need to become Oregon I would just like to be a regional player/power and top 25ish program every couple of years. We all to get to the 8-4 yearly expectation game not the 11-1 expectations of Oregon.

Ask some of those folk in the court side seats, or private boxes.

Maybe its jealousy or envy. But i just shake my head when i walk by those boxes going to get my 6.25 beers (which they still haven't lowered) or when i look down from my 300 level seats.

They may not be diehards. But they may have deep pockets.

Phil Knight's net worth is 22.3 billion dollars. You could take all the Dome box and courtside seat holders and their combined net worth wouldn't be close to Knight's.

I just don't like em.

HUGE!!!!!

It's painful to read because we are all diehards but I agreed with 100% of this post. My only comment is I do not believe SU needs to be a brand football team to be considered successful. Our goal needs to be the second biggest football presence in the Northeast-Mid-Atlantic Football behind PSU.

How do you know that they're not diehards?

What an ignorant thing to say.

And $6.25 beers? What a frickin' steal! I paid $9 for a Bud Light at a minor league hockey game last weekend.

Ugh I will prob go like I usually do with my buddy after the game tonight. Can go to TGI Fridays ($4 tall ones), or Applebees (2.50 shorts, or 3 plus tall ones) for example.

And for 6.25 i expect a little more for that.

Yep. But you could make the argument that with our history and proximity to NYC market, basketball rep, etc- that the hill would be smaller to climb.

Just need a billion dollar benefactor with vision... Hello? This thing on? ...

John Schnatter (Papa John) and Louisville?

Because they've worked their butts off to be able to enjoy the finer things in life? Yeah, great reason to not like somebody you've never met.

I never said they were bad people. I just said they seem like they don't have the energy passion or don't care to have the energy passion of the like that of the 311 heaven crew or many of us in the 300 levels, or anybody/where else in the carrier dome (or nosebleeds)

There is and has long been a stereotype of that crowd.

how about baylor? that program was nowhere and i assume a bunch of rich oil barons threw money at it and turned it around.

You realize that when you sit courtside, you're literally not allowed to stand up and cheer, right? (You can cheer, you cannot stand the whole game and do it, just to clarify) It's against the actual rules.
