Pitt opens -11.5 over Syracuse

People keep saying this but since Colgate Rickie doesn’t sit at all. Not a half not a quarter not a garbage minute possession.

With all the changes in the CFB landscape it is OK to be suspicious of that.

And anyway he's building a program. If we only cared about today I don't think we'd be recruiting freshmen so hard we'd just go for the portal.
It might be a me issue, but I don't follow the logic of your last sentence.

For the record, I have no problem with fans questioning motives or playing time decisions, or game plans, or...whatever. Right or wrong, informed or not, it's what we do. But, those debates are irrelevant.

RC has played every snap since Colgate because that's what the staff feels gives the team the best chance to win. To me, it isn't any more complicated or mysterious than that. IF/when that belief changes, I have no doubt that Carney will play.

When you run an organization--any organization--you balance immediate payoff with future reward. Take Demetrius Samuels. He's really good, but he makes freshman mistakes. There's a good chance we could've gotten someone better than the frosh-version of Samuels for 2025 in the portal. We did not do that, because with our development efforts, Sophomore Samuels in 2026 is likely even better yet. It's like money, do you spend it now or put it in the bank and watch it grow to spend more later.

The debates used to be irrelevant. Unfortunately this is a new era, where fans and donors are being asked directly by the university to contribute to funds that go straight to paying players. NIL effectively has no salary cap; decisions on the field this year impact the feelings of fans and donors and thus the size of next year's payroll. In this case, I do not know if that puts positive, negative, or neutral pressure on Rickie playing but it's not an effect we can just write off.

Anyway, we do agree that Fran is playing to win. I just don't know if it's clear to me if he's playing to win right now or if he's working towards a better future. That can be a short term future as well. When I say "there may be things we don't know" that's not limited to bad things. Another example might be "Rickie's talent in practice is considerably further along than we realize and he's due to prove us all wrong at any moment now."

3 keys to victory:

1. Pitt team that played West Virginia has to show up.
2. Have to win the turnover battle.
3. Competent Red zone offense.

All long shots.

Will ERob's defense mature and give the offense some slack? Some of our best playmakers are WRs. How do we get them the ball if Collins struggles? Can the OL learn to create some gaps for the RBs and/or give Collins a little time? Teams aren't static & Fran et al will have a plan to compete. Time for DART to rear its head and produce some clutch play. We need this game.
